How do you figure? We end in a tie and they beat us twice.

Oh, please, third, fourth, schmortz. Who cares? Besides, WSU will win that game so Troy is in fourth place, which is a real nice accomplishment, especially since they were picked to end up 6th or 7th by the "experts."

What we should care about is the NCAA tournament. Can SC run the table? Yes. The oddsmakers have stated they are a 40 to 1 underdog, which means they have a 2 1/2% chance. Not lottery odds, my friends!

And I think they reduced those odds considerably by the way they played this weekend. It is great to have an SC basketball team; I have waited a long time for this to evolve. I am a happy man tonight.

Washington State wins on a double-overtime thriller. I still don't see how SC would have been third.

Hey Brent:

If WSU would have lost to Wash, then its PAC-10 record would have been 10-8, or one game behind USC at 11-7. USC would have been in 3rd, WSU 4th.

WSU and USC ended up tied at 11-7, but WSU gets 3rd for beating USC twice.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
