Hype machine

That O.J. Mayo-Michael Beasley talk that lasted nearly a week fizzled in the first half. The heralded freshmen combined for only 12 points in the first half (seven by Mayo, only two shots for Beasley), when Kansas State went into the locker room with a 10-point lead to the dismay of the small USC contingent at the Qwest Center.
Among the observers is athletic director Mike Garrett, who was asked before the game if he thought there was any chance that Mayo would return for his sophomore season. “Let’s win a few games first,” Garrett said, declining to give an opinion.
Garrett also said that future recruiting of players who might leave after one season, as Mayo has the opportunity to do, won’t be hasty decisions. Garrett said that Mayo promised to finish his classwork for the school year so that the Trojans do not have to forfeit his scholarship slot if he decides to leave.
“That’s the agreement,” said Garrett, who said Mayo has fulfilled every expectation during his freshman year. “In the next years, we’ll go case by case. We’re looking for character.”

Pathetic, I don't even want him back next year. What a disgusting display of "Basketball". At least Durant made it past the first round last year with all his hype. Good luck being a top ten pick now.

As I'm watching the end of this filth, it only disgusts me more at his attempt to scratch more points out of this pile of crap in order to further his own situation. DISGUSTING.

What an embarrassing loss for a jungle balling Mayo and Co. No one in this undisciplined pack is even ready for the D League, maybe Hackett can go to Italy, Jefferson to jail. You should seriously consider hitting the books gentlemen, you’re gonna need that USC diploma.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
