Guard O.J. Mayo claimed he predicted USC would play Kansas State in the first round.
``Yeah, I called that. I felt like they lost pretty early in their conference tournament and Omaha seemed like a good place for us to play and our fans couid make the travel. At the same time it's pretty much all about money. I just think we could draw a pretty good crowd at Omaha and I think Kansas State could too.''
Kansas State is going to draw a great crowd. I went to the Vegas tourney last year and the whole place was full of purple-clad screaming fans even though Los Angeles is only a few hours down the 15 and Kansas is halfway across the country. We don't travel too well, and Omaha is only a couple hundred miles from Manhattan, so the crowd is definitely going to favor Beasley and the Cats. On top of all of that, KSU fans are some of the most obnoxious I've ever come across.
Crowds and Beasley only count so much. USC wins in a rout.
So now should we call him Psychic O?
He's right about the money issue. Look at some of the easy roads that UNC, Texas, and UCLA have on their way to San Antonio. Then look at matchups like USC-KSU and some of the media markets the bubble teams are in that made it like Villanova (Philly)or traditional programs Arizona and Kentucky scraping by. Ratings are a key factor.
