Round 1
It's Answer Tuesday. You know the drill.
Q: Why is it that Allen Bradford has not seen any significant playing time during his Trojan career? Is there something that we don't know that he did to make the coaches not play him? And how much do you think he will see the field this upcoming year, perhaps becoming a vital player? Sorry for the numerous questions.
A: The one-question rule! He didn't play because the coaches did not believe in him. Whether or not this was justified is debatable but they decide playing time and Stafon Johnson went through it for one year (Bradford's served two years). Whether this changes next year will be tough because Broderick Green also plays the power-back role and it's hard to see two guys performing it. But maybe the tailback rotation will magically accomodate everyone. Maybe not.
Q: Besides the QB position battle, in your opinion what the most intriguing story-line going into spring practice that no one is talking about or taken notice to yet? Thanks
A: I'd have to say the tight end position. Check my post Sunday where I elaborated.
Q: You questioned in one of your posts why USC was bringing in two point guards when they need front court help. Then you said, "of course, we know why." Well, I'm not sure why. I know Leonard Washington could have helped this season, and I guess maybe he will next season. Diarra could have helped this season, but got injured. Still, I look at this incoming class and just wonder why we weren't able to get some big men along with Derozan (who, to be fair, may be an even bigger recruit than Mayo) Could you explain why?
A: My sarcasm referred to the package deal of taking Romeo Miller and DeRozan together. I'm not against taking a couple point guards, but I think maybe signing one who was offered by another college would be a good sign. Now maybe Tim Floyd thinks he's addressed the big-man shortage by taking Leonard Washington again next season (if he qualifies) and getting Diarra off his redshirt year. The other point is scholarships can be a precious commodity in basketball and should not be wasted. Remember it was Floyd who signed Keith Wilkinson and Collin Robinson on one-year deals as freshman. Wilkinson eventually earned four years while Robinson transferred after his freshman season.
