Spring football school
Whatever outrage exists after yesterday's Kansas State loss will largely disappear by the weekend as spring practice takes the forefront (a good thing for Tim Floyd). That's the way it is at USC. For better or worse. Besides, it's easier to think about spring football than baseball . . . or men's volleyball.
Which reminds me, four years ago, a sports information official said the arrival of a volleyball recruit (name withheld) would completely transform the program, which four years later is 9-12. Good thing we didn't believe him!

no outrage here; they were defeated by a better team,
The Pac 10 is just an overrated conference. Two teams down in the first round; 3 had cakewalks, and another should lose today.
Outrage??? Utterly ridiculous! We went to the tourney 1ce in the 70s, 2ce in the 80s, 3x in the 90s, and now 4x in the 00s with a chance to make it 5x next year. We should rejoice in our consecutive tourney streak this year, and be thankful that Coach Floyd has SC basketball in its best national position since the 60s. Out of the last 15 games against the Bruins, we are 7-8. We are on the precipice. Demar will be a superstar. Final Quattro with DeRo and Mayo in 09.
The key for success for the SC basketball team is whether their players will stick around for more than one or two years. No matter how talented, it's hard to be consistent with underclassmen. This year, case in point.
USCdog hit the nail on the head..with the 1 and done guys we have..we are never going anywhere.
Until some of they players stick around for 2 or 3 years we will be NIT material..plus we don't have an inside presence, Taj Gibson is it at 6-9...Mamadou diara is 7-0 but is always hurt. That's why we're a guard oriented team..we can't score inside so we have to score outside. And once we face a team with good defense...show's over.
Sort of like how Oregon beat us last year in football..double team Fred Davis and USC had no offense..they took away the 1 thing we could do to score.
We will never go to the final 4, we just don't have the depth and talent of a North Carolina/Duke. But if some guys stuck around we could go to the elite 8.
The USC baseball team has the same problem..they get good talent but after 1 year, off to MLB.
Disappointment YES - Outrage NO. Would I have loved to see SC make the final four and whip UCLA? YES!!!!!
But this IS only college sports!! I'll save my outrage for things like innocents killed in senseless gang shootings.
I know who you are talking about Scott, it must be ol' Jimmy Killian. well he was good in high school...

Ricky, you brought up baseball recruits. USC's top commit for this year didn't even make it to USC; he went number 2 in the MLB draft last year.
