Worse than the NIT?

| | Comments (1) |

Did you know there is a new post-season basketball tournament that takes 16 teams AFTER the NCAA Tournament and NIT select their fields? It's called the College Basketball Invitational.
Naturally, it will be televised by Fox (Fox College Sports). Imagine if they did this on the women's side, then USC would have to turn down two tournaments after it didn't qualify for the NCAA's.
One twist: Once the field is reduced to four teams, they are reseeded and play a best-of-3 playoff series. Here's some more details on the CBI.

March 18th and 19th

- A total of eight Opening Round games at campus sites

March 24th

- Four Quarterfinal Round games at campus sites

March 26th

- Two semi-final games on campus sites

College Basketball Invitational Championship Series (March 31st, April 2nd & April 4th)

The Championship Series will be a best of three series (home-away-home), in which the higher seed will get the first and last (if necessary) home games.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
