Worth questioning, Part II

| | Comments (21) |

Earlier today, we asked this question: ``How significant was it that Steve Sarkisian said after the first practice that Mark Sanchez's arm was strong enough for hash-to-hash throws while Mitch Mustain was feeling his way through those passes?''
Well, after practice, we asked Sarkisian about it.
``The key for Mitch is, when the hesitation occurs, (he needs to) learn from it,'' Sarkisian said. ``The difference occurs from being in the system longer. Mark has areas he needs to improve too.''

Sanchitos is so far ahead of Moostain and AirCorp that the job is his to lose. So… he better keep it together and not do something stupid. Stop with the hateraid, we all need to forgive Sanchitos even if we can’t forget.
May the best Trojan win.

Hey locoweed.

Try being as courteous online as you would be in real life.

I'm sure you wouldn't dare speak that way in front of me or more than one third of the last decade's fellow USC graduates.

I'm simply asking you to be courteous. No need to insult folks here with your sophomoric attempts at humor.

Thank you. If you read another thread I asked him to stop his twisted sense of humor. I have also asked him to stop calling Sánchez that sanchitos garbage. As you alluded to he started the name calling which could lead to racial talk. If you read the thread that I'm talking about he referred to Mark Sánchez as taco breath. That has to stop.
Again thanks

The real question is what are the blogger going to talk about once Mustain loses out ot Sanchez and transfers again.

thegoodfight Author Profile Page said:

I myself doubt that Mustain transfers again, if he loses out to Sanchez.

At a minimum, he'll have a year as the starter, and look what Cassell did with *no years* as starter at SC.

Mustain is obviously very talented, and will prevail in some way. If you're looking for a transfer, Corp is probably your man. And I don't mean to be glib. With Barkley slated to come in and redshirt in '09, it's probably the best thing for Corp. He deserves a real shot as a starter somewhere.

As for the "hateraid" against Sanchez, I certainly agree. I'd also agree that we shoud respect the kid properly, by using his actual name.

I honestly do not understand the Sanchez hate on this site. Unless, of course, there are some Bruin ringers, under various nommes de guerre, doing it.

Otherwise, seems to me to be a revenge of the nerds kind of thing. Sanchez was called to the carpet for, as a college freshman, fooling around with a girl. My goodness! I'm shocked! There but for the grace of God, went I. Who knows what would've happened if some girl I was with, Freshman or Sophomore year at SC, had called and confided in her mother?

At the end of the day, did the girl -- or the girl's *mother* -- believe she had been raped?

Bottom line -- the charges were dismissed. Moreover, the LAPD were roundly criticized for jumping the gun.

And as for the fake ID? Please... I can't think of *any* of my friends at SC who *didn't* drink underage. And I was a pretty straight-laced Trustee Scholar.

As for Sanchez's talent and potential? IMO, it's superior to JDB's, God bless him. And *every bit* the equal of Mitch Mustain's.

Sanchez is more talented than Booty? Are you even being serious about this? If he had been better, he would have started over Booty.

Booty was MUCH better than Sanchez. It wasn't even close. The gap was quite significant.

Sorry, that's complete and utter nonsense.

*Many* unbiased people who have observed the program closely, agree that Sanchez should've gotten the nod over Booty.

Although, as a fellow Trojan, I respect Booty's efforts, I believe that history will view him as only a slightly above average quarterback, working amidst exceptional talent.

Off the cuff, Sanchez boasts the following advantages over Booty:

1) He is brighter, by an order of magnitude. Sanchez was recruited by both Stanford and Yale. His older brother was a starting qb at Yale.

2) He has a stronger arm and superior touch to Booty.

3) He is -- again, by an order of magnitude -- more athletic than Booty.

4) He possesses more charisma and leadership traits than did Booty.

I find it utterly laughable that people here denigrate Sanchez's efforts in his three games as a starter last season, when in fact many neutral observers -- in the Sports Press, for example -- were conjecturing that Sanchez had won Booty's job. Coming off the bench, with no preparation as the starter.

Many believe that Booty was chosen over Sanchez by Carroll, because, at the end of the day, Mark never had a fair chance to win the job. In other words, if PC had given Sanchez the job, what counterproductive effects would this have had for recruiting in the future? What message would it have sent to future five star athletes whom Carroll would ask to wait patiently and pay their dues?

*Watch* what Mark Sanchez does in the coming two seasons. Then let's have this conversation again.

thegoodfight,

The only person in the media who said that Sanchez should remain the starter over Booty was Bill Plaschke of the LA Times following the ND game. He later wrote another column claiming he made a mistake in saying that and concluded that Booty was far superior to Sanchez and retracted that statement.

Arizona and ND were bottom feeders. Sanchez cost us the Oregon game and effectively ended SC's season with his costly interceptions.

As far as Sanchez's intelligence, where do I begin? He's dumb as a brick. He throws into triple coverage, locks down on a receiver, runs around like a headless chicken holding the ball out three feet away from his body asking to have it knocked out. If you factor in his off the field troubles, intelligence is not a word that comes to mind. A 3.2 GPA in communications is the equivalent of a 1.1 in a real major. Dumb as a brick.

Let's not forget Sanchez's stupidity when he wore the Mexican mouthpiece. Rather than being a team player and being a leader, he separates and focuses attention to himself and brings race politics into college football where it does not belong.

Locoweed Author Profile Page said:

Hawkins,
Strangely, I find myself agreeing with you. It was a dumb stunt on many levels. I watched the game with my father, (a venerable octogenarian that was born in Mexico City), and he commented how offensive and disrespectful towards México it was for this dumb Cholo kid to wear the Mexican flag in his teeth. Furthermore, the on-field preening was completely unmerited as he was only filling in for his injured teammate.
He should have worn a Cardinal and Gold mouthpiece.
Since it looks like my compatriot will be our starting QB I wish him luck; but his proven lack of judgment makes me wonder how it will all end. In the meantime we should prepare for the onslaught of hysteria from the clowns at UGLA, ND and the MSM.

azbet,

You come off as a rather immature person who has rushed to a summary judgment about Mark Sanchez.

As I see it, which is *objectively*, the Oregon game was no more costly -- and certainly less embarrassing -- than the Stanford game, in which Booty threw four interceptions. Broken finger or no, he kept completing passes to the opposing team, didn't he?

Based on the absurdly bad picks he threw in garbage time against Washington and UCLA during the '05 season, the pick sixes against Arizona State in '06 and Stanford in '07, Booty made *more* than his fair share of bonehead plays to set against Sanchez's interception, under pressure, in the final drive of the Oregon game.

Who is to say that Booty -- who just scored a 14, I believe, on the Wonderlic -- would have won the game for us? You?

Of course, I would prefer not to speak poorly of JDB. But you have forced my hand. Guys like you put loyal Trojans in the position of choosing one Trojan over another.

And, if you are affiliated with SC, you should be ashamed of yourself.

As for my opinion regarding Sanchez's superior potential? It will either be borne out -- or not be borne out -- in due time.

We'll have to wait and see.

This is a matter of importance only to racists, and to those who have a bias against Mark Sanchez. Believe me, it matters not to anyone who doesn't fit into one or both of those categories.

I have no problem whatsoever with Mark Sanchez demonstrating pride in his heritage. Nor should you.

Trojan in Redondo Author Profile Page said:

Booty was dumb but so is Sanchez. At least Booty did not embarrass himself off the field and conducted himself with dignity. As a Trojan, I was never ashamed of Booty and felt he carried himself well and represented USC well. Sanchez, on the other hand, can't stop embarrassing himself. When he started trashing Booty to the media following the Notre Dame game last season, that was the final straw for me. Trashing an injured teammate, saying that Booty should now be his permanent backup, all of it was classless. Booty kept his mouth shut, never criticized Sanchez and came back in a final blaze of glory to end the season. Sanchez simply does not possess the character to represent USC.

Trojan in Redondo Author Profile Page said:

Sanchez changed his story on several occasions regarding the Mexican mouthpiece:

1) He first said it was to share the plight of his people in East LA.

2) Then he said it was to represent his father and his heritage.

3) When he started getting heavily criticized in the media and there were calls from alumni to Heritage Hall, he claimed it was all a joke between he and his Cuban dentist.

At no point did the dentist come out and defend that statement, nor did Pete Carroll. Too many conflicting stories from Sanchez, but one thing is certain: he is dishonest and can't be trusted.

Link, please. You are making this up from whole cloth.

Mark Sanchez said at the time that it felt good to be the starter and that he didn't want to stop. What on earth is wrong with that?

He mentioned *nothing* about Booty, by name, to my knowledge. So, if you have proof to the contrary, bring it.

Without a doubt, I would have felt the same way if I were Sanchez. I may have more facility with language, and may have expressed it in a way more to your liking. Maybe not.

But I guarantee, you, if I were in Sanchez's shoes, I would have wanted to keep the job.

*Many* who were disaffected with Booty's inconsistency, also wanted Sanchez to keep the job.

Additionally, the bit about the mouthpiece is pure silliness.

It is like a pack mentality, around here. Somehow it apparently makes many here feel good to pile on.

Some advice. Think before you follow the pack. *Lynch mobs* are also packs.
