In a new and exciting feature, I'm going to ask you to submit questions here for Pete Carroll. The best one will be asked by me on Tuesday. Remember, coaches cannot discuss recruiting, so that eliminates about 50 percent of your questions right off the bat.
This is not an open forum, so don't ask me questions here. You can do that in Saturday's post.

Can you guarantee that the quarterback competition will be completely fair and open based purely on competition and talent, and not on length of time in the system?

How do the offensive and defensive playbooks you use at USC compare in degree of difficulty to your pro experiences?

Hey Pete, did you really diddle a coed?

Hey PC-

Which is more important to you:

1. Sticking with the same kiddie coaching staff

or

2. Return to winning MNCs

You can't have both.

Of all the players you have had thus far at USC which one would you think would do well as a Coach?

Thanks for Coaching the Trojans! - John Carroll

Has the school been able to get in contact with Maurice Simmons and has his status with the program changed?

Scratch my question, Caesar's is better.

What do you feel is the most important quality in a quarterback and which USC QB had/has it the most?

Do you think Stafon Johnson got the number of carries that he deserved last season (based on what he accomplished on the field).

BoscoH said:

Coach, would you consider a two-headed quarterback system like we had with Otton and Wachholtz back in the day? Otton had very good poise and nice touch on the ball, while Wachholtz was a fiery competitor always looking to knock an opposing linebacker out of the game.

Coach, what bites at you more, 13 - 9 or "Standford"? Fight On!

Do you plan on making any position switches, or at least trying out any players at different positions during the spring?

In previous years, there were usually a number of coaching changes in the off-season. Why have there been no changes this year?

What is the process of evaluating players after the "competition" has been completed on the field. For example, is it then film discussion with you and the position coach, or are all the coaches present; is it a roundtable discussion and then you decide? Thanks for the opportunity to submit the question.

Pete,

Why is it that so many of your recruits never see the field due to injury, character or academic issues?

Now that spring is officially here, I came across something very interesting...Gus Malzahn used a spread, no-huddle offense at Springdale High School and tried to incorporate some of that with Arkansas. But during 2006, the no-huddle never gained a foothold and Mitch Mustain's numbers were less then stellar despite going 8-0 as a starter for the Razorbacks. We all know what happened after the 2006 season with the Arkansas program. However in 2007, Tulsa became the only college football program in history to have a 1,000 yard back, a 5,000 yard passer and three 1,000 yard receivers. Those results came under Gus Malzahn as the Tulsa OC. One can't help but wonder or question if Mitch Mustain was a product of the Malzahn system. There was talk last spring that the shotgun was going to be implemented last year, however that never materialized. Recently on your personal blog, it stated that there is a new offensive playbook being prepared for this spring with completely new plays. The spread, no-huddle approach with the QB in shotgun formation is not utilized under the current system and defenses will ultimately make in-game adjustments to exploit weaknesses in any system. Do you see your current system possibly posing a problem for Mustain now that he is in a position to compete for the QB position this season and as a result "new" plays will be installed this spring to better suit Mustain's QB style?

One of the most frustrating things about last years team was the large number of penalties, especially personal fouls. What if anything is being done to reduce the number of penalties?

Thanks,

Coach, what is the relationship you have with the various coaches you invite to participate in your clinics? Is there a process for inviting these coaches, are they considered good friends, etc?

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
