Pro Day
Here's the 40 times. A lot of guys improved their draft stock, including John David Booty, who threw about 80 passes.
Sam Baker 5.45 5.4
Will Collins 5.31 5.2
Fred Davis 4.70 4.60
Sedrick Ellis 5.0 5.08
Alex Morrow 4.93 4.76
Desmond Reed 4.97 4.88
Keith Rivers 4.51 4.55
Matt Spanos 5.35 5.20
Terrell Thomas 4.50 4.57
Dale Thompson 4.80 4.67
Chauncey Washington 4.30 4.35
Thomas Williams 4.70 4.70

Desmond Reed 4.97? 4.88? He must be running with an injury. I knew he is faster than those times.
Did Lawrence Jackson participate?
Thnx
I didn't know Washington was that fast. Good for him.
Good to see Sedrick improve on his 40...but there is no way on this earth big ol' Chauncey ran that time! McFadden ran a 4.33 and Mendenhall ran a 4.41.
Actually TroJay21,
Those times are electronic, so there's no room for discrepency.
I've seen Chauncey's burst at practices, numerous times. So I'm not surprised at the 40 time.
Too bad we didn't get to see it a bit more often in games, huh?
I too have viewed practices and more importantly his in-game speed and that's terrific if he ran a pair of sub-4.4 40s. If those numbers hold up he's in great company with Reggie's 4.33 or according to the numbers a tad bit quicker. I'm truly stunned and I'm sure the scouts in attendance were equally stunned that he clocked a sub-4.4. He seems like he was prepared(wish we saw more of that during his college career) and the NFL certainly covets a 6-foot, 200+ pound power back with that kind of speed.
The thing about Chauncey is, at the end of the day, he seemed to lack the *vision* of Reggie or LenDale, or even Stafon.
So -- assuming we can believe Wolf's numbers are correct -- that speed all too often went to waste.
I was intrigued to see the way that Ryan Grant had a break-out season in '07/'08 at Green Bay. Just goes to show that, with the right skill set, coaching, and maybe a personal breakthrough -- in which an athlete suddenly "gets it" -- guys can seem to come out of nowhere.
Maybe Chauncey has this potential.
I remember at least one person on this board slapped the moniker "Tiny Dancer" on Chauncey for his propensity to "dance" at the line, instead of hitting the hole at full speed. However, when he runs at full speed, he was a beast and hard to bring down. I hope he has a long career in the NFL.
Fight On!
From what I've read, its a legit mid 4.3 and was an eye opener for all in attendance. Its great to see that he put his time in cause it definitely improved his stock. It is true, Chauncey did take some deserved and undeserved heat on this board for having "happy feet" once he hit the line, and though he'll be somewhat of a project, I hope what he did at the Pro Day translates into good things for him at the next level cause PC took some heat as well for sticking and believing in Chauncey. The NFL puts too much stock into numbers and don't put enough into the intangibles you cannot measure like field awareness and in-game speed. Jerry Rice was clocked at 4.7 in his 40 and may go down in history as the best WR of all time cause he was known to "play fast".
Chauncey also lacked the moobs that LenDale was sporting at his combine.
Moobs...I can't stop laughing...hysterical.
Jerry Rice "may" be the best WR of all time? Jerry Rice IS the best WR of all time, there is no comparison. Many argue he is the best football player of all-time regardless of position.
