Quarterback concerned

There was no mystery that Mark Sanchez would be named the starter, but we hear Mitch Mustain was a little confused Tuesday about the meaning of the announcement and where he stood. Specifically, he wanted to know if it meant he would not have a chance to win the job in the fall.
And it wasn't hard to see his disappointment with the decision.
``I don’t think it’s closed. We’ve got a lot of time,’’ he said. ``I feel like I’ve done everything I could. They were fairly set on a decision at the end of spring.’’

Give it a rest already. Could you focus on some news rather than attempting to promote controversy?

This kid started 8 games for Arkansas, won the 8 games playing against some of the toughest schools in DivI.

He doesn't have the system down good enough we're told, yet he has more game experience than Sanchez, but has to play back up to Sanchez, there's more to this than meets the eye. This kid is getting blind sided by a false sense of seniority.

Mitch is a redshirt sophomore, if he plays behind Sanchez for two years he will have one year to play, not to mention Matt Barkley arriving next year. With that, he may never play.

He needs to finish this semester, pack his stuff and find a college that wants a quality quarterback.

Well, Sanchez paid his dues, this being his fourth year. Mustain would still get a year or two when Sanchez leaves.

And now that Sanchez has been named the starter, I am going to try real hard to forget his alleged transgressions. I have heard him speak on the radio, and he is very articulate and seems smart. So maybe we all should give him a "mistake allowance," and move on. Besides, I want to root like H--- for ol' SC versus Virginia in late August, and that means rooting for Mark.

It is quite unbelievable that these Pop Warner level coaches can't put aside their self-righteous beliefs and realize that this competition must go on, if for no other reason than to instill a sense of TEAM and develop a sense of continuity, because nothing says TEAM or continuity like QB controversy. Never mind that Mitch, like Mark, too was capable of turnovers...after all, he did win 8 games against great SEC teams. Forget that SC has owned those SEC teams for years, or that he ran a completely different offense at Arkansas. Those damn coaches have an oblication to appease the message board hoards!

Arkansas won those 8 Games because of Darren McFadden, not Mitch. That is why Mitch got benched. Mitch was turning the ball over to frequently.

Mitch will be at Delaware, like Joe Falcco, in 2 weeks.

I have never understood this obsession with Mustain. He went 8-0 at Arkansas. It was Darren McFadden who won those games not Mitch.

Look at the stats. The 8 starts/wins were vs. Utah St., Vandy, Bama, Auburn, SE Missouri St., Mississippi, Louisana-Monroe and South Carolina.

He went 7-22 for 97 yds. and 3 picks and 1 TD v. Bama(horrible)

He went 5-13 for 51 yds and a TD v. Auburn. (Hideous)

Played 1 series vs. South Carolina, threw a pick on his only attempt and was benched.

I can see why he has all the USC fans wanting him to start. Only 3 of his games were vs. real SEC teams and he was a combined 148 yds., 2 tds and 4 INT's.

What am I missing?

Thank goodness we have Sanchez.

Thanks for the stats, Fighton. Nothing tells the truth (or lies) like stats. But in this case, I think it spells a lot of truth. Looks like the SC coaches made the right decision in picking Sanchez over Mustain. But then again, aren't the bloggers smarter than the SC coaches?

I have no agenda, I think both qb's could do a good job, and hopefully one will lead USC to a National Title. I don't recall thinking much about Leinart during Spring practice either.

I just haven't understood this blogs distain for Sanchez or the infatuation with Mustain.

Why does wanting Sanchez to be the starting QB require some Trojan "fans" to feel the need to dis Mustain, and vice versa? Sad way to show support for your supposed team.

Fighton..it's because most of these fairweather bandwagoners only see the 8-0. The vast majority of them wouldn't even be posting regularly here if it were still the Hackett era.
I don't have anything against Mustain, except that he did not appear to be able to beat Mark Sanchez out for the job, hence he's in the mix with Aaron Corp for the backup role.
I'd root like heck and support any of these 3 gifted young players, so Sanchez is currently the top guy so Fight On Sanchez!
I hope that all the Mustain fans will at least give Sanchez their support..at least until the time hopefully does not ever come that he doesn't deserve it anymore. Right now, he has earned, and thus richly deserves my support!

I'm with Fighton on this subject. It wasn't Mustain winning all those games. You have to consider that the Heisman front runner (Darren McFadden) had a lot to do with those wins. I believe many people put too much emphasis on the fact that Mustain was the number one qb coming out of high school and that USC just missed out on him the first time around. Mark was the number one qb also and he has more experience in our system (3 years to 1 year). He is able to make quicker reads than Mustain even though he may have poorer risk management than him. I would trust either one of them. Who's to say Sanchez won't get hurt and he'll end up playing. For that matter, who's to say they both won't get hurt and we'll have Corp playing. It happened to UCLA last year. They were down to their 4th string walk on.

Mark..let's just get down to brass tax here..

USC SCREWED YOU OVER

you were never going to start and you probably never will start...you were brought in for the sake of PC's precious "competition" A #1 QB to push bonehead...err..Sanchez..your a sacrificial lamb...

so you have 2 choices:

1. Stay at USC and get some garbage time vs. Arizona with USC ahead 33-9

2. transfer

Hmmm...and I would love to help ya...USC is going to get a huge black eye out of this when everyone realizes they shafted you..

RickyIrvins, you are flat out a visionary, and if not for your much ballyhooed graduate school accomplishments, I’d say they make you a graduate assistant. We can only hope that Caesar reads your posts and models his program based on your prophecies, because there is no doubt you are quite the intellect. We need more of your post. War RickyIrvins, and War Mustain!
