Round 8

Taylor Mays is a subject here along with the quarterbacks, of course.

Q: Are the rumors true that Sanchez was named the starter (for the time being, at least) during spring training because the coaches wanted someone to run voluntary summer drills?

A: Any quarterback can run summer drills but the coaches think it helps the QB to run them for his confidence. So it's considered a long-term benefit, not a short-term benefit. Of course, what does it do for the confidence of the second or third quarterback?

Q: Ellis, Rivers, and Davis all helped themselves by staying an extra year. What are the chances players like Taylor Mays and Shareece Wright continue to stay in school after the success of this year's draft?

A: Taylor Mays will leave if he is projected to go high, which is likely. Shareece Wright will return. He needs more experience.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
