Round 9

| | Comments (6) |

It might still be difficult to post comments. Big surprise.

Q: Rather than posting yet another poll question asking your readers who they think is leading the QB race, or is playing better (that's all been done enough times by now; we're not getting anything new posting the same question over and over again), how about posting a question as to whether they think the QB "derby" has really been open and based on competition and talent, or has it been an indefensible sham?

A: I’ve already let the fans vote on who they thought should win the competition and answered every question about the process in making the decision that was asked.

Q: There have been numerous articles in the media these past few weeks, including national publications, bringing up Mark Sanchez's arrest for sexual assault, as well as his other off the field issues, just as there had been last season during the time when he played for the injured John David Booty, so do you think this issue will keep being brought up in the future by the media since it does not appear to be going away? Do you think it will continue to haunt him, both in the media and when he plays at away stadiums?

A: Opposing fans will always seize upon things to taunt opponents, especially in Oregon. The media will probably mention it in passing in stories. Once you have a legal issue, it usually gets asked about the rest of your career.

Q: Why will Pete Carroll not wait until the fall to name the next starting quarterback and provide a more equal playing field for Mitch Mustain, which could, subsequently, even benefit the team? Is there a possibility that he will actually wait until the fall to name the quarterback or has the decision to prematurely name the starter in the spring already been made?

A: This question was obviously asked last week but again, I don't think there's any big advantage to naming a QB now vs. the fall. But obviously the coaches disagree with me. I do know Mitch Mustain was pretty disappointed last week and at least if they had waited, he wouldn't wonder if he really has a shot at the job all summer. And Aaron Corp threw a kink into everyone's depth chart with his final scrimmage performance.

You people need to get over this obsession with Mustain and back the starter.

Mustain didn't do anything to dominate over Snachez and the coaches made a decision.

These are the same coaches who turned a dead program into the team of the decade. I have a slight inclination to believe they know more about football than SW and the rest of the MM followers.

Go USC, whoever is starting.

Just how stupid are you?

"If we played a game this Saturday, he would start."

What part of that do you not understand? Carroll said it quite clearly. He has not been named the starter for the fall, but only through spring training and until fall training camp begins. At that point, the competition resumes.

He got the nod due to his knowledge of the offense, not because he beat Mustain due to talent or anything on the field. Not one comment has said anything about Sanchez's talent, just his knowledge of the playbook.

So he started on Saturday in the scrimmage and lost! What does that say about him?

Sanchez may not even start against Virginia. If he does start against Virginia, he may not be the starter later on in the season.

Seriously, some of you people need to learn some basic English skills. Listen/read what Carroll says.

"If we played a game this Saturday, he would start."

Well, Virginia is over four months away.

After hearing everyone on this board talk about MM being our savior I was dissappointed when I saw him in person. I will back the starter no matter who it is but at this point I have a little more confidence in Sanchez and even Corp.
