This involves a recruit and concerns a repeated question that he might not be coming in the fall.
Q: If Uona Kavienga redshirts this season and then goes on his mormon mission, does he still have 4 years of eligibility left when he comes back from his mission?
A: A player can go on a mission and have four years of eligibility. Now, concerning Kavienga. I've looked into this and I was told that going on a mission was not part of the deal when he signed with USC.

If the facts of this recruit are true then its quite sad because our D needs some impact LB's to come in this year and he seemed like a great mix of talent/character. Also I believe that if this goes down as stated above, then we might as well forget about getting Manti Te'o from Hawaii, another HUGE LB recruit that would be class of 09' because he has emphatically said that the permission by the coach/program to release him to serve his mission and allow him to come back to the team after would be a major, if not the most important part of his recruiting. I do not understand Carroll's logic about this issue when in fact he is losing out on a small group of top recruits that usually have not only loads of talent but plenty of character and dedication. A part of character I believe is a player being teach-able/coach-able and I think we can all survey the past few years and see who were the guys that were getting in trouble in different ways at school who were also not performing up to expectation on the field (possibly due to lack of work-ethic/coachability)
FirstandTen, I think you're putting way too much faith in Scott's word. What I've heard from people who talk to the family is that coach Carroll signed off on Uona going on his mission. I'll see if I can find a link for you, but it may be in a premium article.
Don't forget that Scott has a vested interest in writing things that cast a negative light on USC. It's what he gets paid for.

What about Jordan Cameron? He was all set to serve a mormon mission when he was recruited.
I haven't even heard anything about Jordan Cameron since he decided to transfer here out of BYU. I was under the impression that he was to play at a JC last season and come in as a RS frosh or soph this year, but I haven't heard anything about the kid.
It's not like we're hurting at TE anyway. With Rhett Ellison really coming along, Anthony McCoy as a the presumptive starter, Blake Ayles coming in this year, and Morrel Presley next year, I'm not too worried about the position.
I'll see if I can find out.
Is Jordan even a Mormon? Just because he went to BYU doesn't mean he's LDS.
