Linebacker Malcolm Smith is practicing almost exclusively with the first string this week thanks to a little bit of luck.
With Rey Maualuga sitting out to rest a strained hamstring, that means Luthur Brown moves from weakside linebacker to middle linebacker. And with Kaluka Maiava already out following wrist surgery, that leaves Smith as the main guy at weakside linebacker.
``I'm a lot more comfortable than I was last season,'' Smith said.
