Washington drafted
Tailback Chauncey Washington was picked in the seventh round by Jacksonville (where the running backs coach is former USC assistant Kennedy Pola).
Pete Carroll said right before the draft he thought Washington would be taken in the third round. And many thought his 4.35 time in the 40 on Pro Day increased his stock. Such is the fickle world of predicting draft picks.

He has 3 problems:
1. All the fumbles he has had..especially in the Oregon st. Game, really made him look bad
2. Durability
3. lack of effort---they talked about chauncey washington for 10 minutes on ESPN2 today during the draft..how the only time anyone ever saw him give 110% was at the senior bowl and the combine..he's a loaf and takes alot of plays (games?) off.
All of above listed things can also apply to:
1. Patrick Turner
2. Vidal Hazelton
3. David Ausberry
4. Butch Lewis
5. Joe McKnight
6. Cary Harris
7. John David Booty
8. Mike Williams
9. Dwayne Jarrett
10.Dominique Byrd
11. Winston Justice
12. Frostee Rucker
etc...so I guess he is the prototypical USC player..blessed with tons of talent and not too interested in showing up everyday..and they get burned for it at the NFL draft. The question is, when is something going tobe done about it?
Couldn't agree more Ricky...I've been saying for years that the big problem with Winston Justice and Frostee Rucker were all those fumbles! And John David Booty's durability was SUCH a liability...why didn't he do more bone-strengthening exercises during the offseason to prevent his finger from cracking on a helmet on a freak accident during a game? I mean, how do you not see that coming.
You hack.
A couple thoughts on Ricky's statements:
Hazelton:
He played with that abdominal tear through last season - I know that probably fits him into your durability category but as far as I know it's only his first injury. I'd like to see what he can do at 100%.
Ausberry:
I really don't know anything about him.
McKnight:
I think the jury's still out on him. We'll see how he handles added responsibility this year and if he can master the playbook (not to mention his classes).
Booty:
I think he played hard and to the best of his abilities this past season. Unfortunately those abilities weren't on par with Leinart and Palmer.
Unfortunately, I can't argue much about 8-12. The coaches got them to produce in college but they're on their own in the NFL. From what I understand they give a tutorial on choosing agents and such but as far as their other problems, I mean c'mon.
Should there be a class to telll Jarrett not to drive drunk or Frostee to not do illegal drugs and abuse women? If Mike Williams can't figure out that nobody wants an 280 pound wide receiver that doesn't have the common sense to set an alarm clock and get to practice on time, then he deserves to wash out.
Anyway, I heard Chauncey worked his ass off before the combine so maybe he has his stuff together. Better late then never I guess.
Good luck to him and the other grads and draftees.
dude you are suck a freaking joke Ricky! Your gonna tell me Booty fits in that. That guy gave his all whenever he could, even when he prob. shouldnt of been in. But at least he had a sack to get out there. But you are right, some of those guys listed have only been a small part of 6 straight Pac 10 Titles, 2 national titles, and the most dominating team the last 6 years. What a bunch of losers. It is time someone step in and tell Pete Crroll how to win some games. Its getting old. Were gonna start to lose the stupid band wagon fans who do not even know what they are saying when they come on here if something is not done fast!
Carroll's run is unprecedented. We have TWO Nat'l Championships. (The AP Poll has counted for NCs a lot longer than the BS BCS.) For those who are not satisfied, perhaps you never will be.
Like you, I am extremely disappointed at the missed opportunities. Texas. Booty's two tipped passes against OSU and fUCLA. Last year, Booty's broken finger.
But at least we HAD the OPPORTUNITY to play in the NC game four years running (2003-2006, including Texas and 2006 fUCLA losses). That does not include the other accomplishments being brushed aside, such as:
34-game winning streak
27-game winning streak vs. Pac-10
35-game home winning streak
33 weeks straight as the No. 1 rated team
63 weeks straight as AP Top 10
6 straight Top 4 finishes
6 Pac-10 titles
5 straight BCS bowls
3 Rose Bowls wins
3 Heisman Trophies
42 NFL draft picks
11 1st rounders.
There was a time in this program when that was not the case. Enjoy the moment.
mike:
Our ages are showing. In another thread I referred to the JRII and the Hackett years. These harsh critics live in a fantasy world. They refuse to accept that period prior to PC's arrival. They refuse to think that a period other than a high expectation one will never take place. Look at UCLA losing their two QB's to injuries. That can easily happen to USC or any other CFB program.
With ALL due respect Mike you forgot to add the #1 or successful recruiting classes that contributed and continue to contribute to the great recognition of the program. Some of the bench players can be easily start at other schools. Those are my humble two cents.
Thanks
RickIrvins should be made to read Trojan RAB and uscmike's above commentaries at least 100 times each day for the rest of his life. Probably still wouldn't cheer him up though.
