Answer Friday, Part VII

Of course, another recruiting question.

Q: Why are major recruits like Craig Loston, Logan Heastie, Russell Shepard, and Donte Moss not vsiting to USC and commiting too early. How is the recruiting class shaping for next year? It has been quiet for USC commitments the last couple of months, is there another letdown like last year? Also, is Rick stealing the recruits.

A: Recruiting is far ahead of last year with all the local commitments. It couldn't possilbly stay on that pace and there will probably be a couple more commitments when the camps start in a few weeks. So far, I've been surprised at how slow UCLA's started out but it is still early. I think they will land Inglewood's Shaquelle Evans, however, who is seems unlikely to go to USC.

Q: What is the update on Maurice Simmons and his stiuation? Will he play next year at USC?

A: His preliminary hearing was delayed until later this month. At the rate things are going, it might questionable if his case will even be heard before training camp opens in August.

Q: Do you still take interest in Rosary high school basketball anymore? Or, not? Since it appears that their glory days are over.

A: Alas, I only went to two Rosary game this season and they split the results, losing to eventual CIF champs Laguna Hills. The Royals were still very respectable but a far cry from the Karina Figueroa-Erin Noonan glory days. But at least they are better than Servite basketball.

Regarding the recruiting question, no need to panic. Nine of the top 100 have already committed to SC and there are those "experts" on both Rivals and Scout who believe PC and Company may reel in as many as 17 of the top 100. Indications are that this will be SC's best signing class ever!

Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
