Answer Monday, Part 8

Q: Could Chris Gallipo step in at SLB even though he is a MLB, if Cushing got hurt again?

A: The middle linebacker position requires a lot of learning and it's unlikely Galippo would move because Clay Matthews and Luthur Brown could each fill in at strongside receiver. Matthews has played strongside for four years and will back up Cushing even if he moves to d-end in the nickel defense.

Q: What are the different skill sets between the wide receiver positions versus the slot receiver positon?

A: The slot receiver and flanker are allowed to line up behind the line of scrimmage, which gives them more space before the cornerback can jam them. The split end must line up on the line of scrimmage, so he is more constrained. The flanker and slot receiver might be considered more likely to get passes because of the extra space but this hardly a rule.
