Buehler's gotta be the fastest, strongest kicker in the country...

A 4.49 from the kicker is even more bonkers than the 4.25 from Mays. How do we have a kicker that is faster than most of our RBs & WRs? Crazy.

Wow. New graphics. Looking good Louis. Did you get some of that Guillory money, Scott?

Buehler's time is not surprising, the guy is more than a kicker, he is a real football player. Recall a couple of times Buehler catching running backs from behind.

That said, most of my memories of kickers on kickoffs is how they get run over as the last line of defense. So we don't need fast kickers unless the center snaps the ball awry and the kicker has to go after it quickly.

Why would they even bother to time kickers? Or worse, report their times on a blog?

Dirk,

Because even though they're kickers, they still like to compete with the rest of the team. Athletes, even kickers, tend to be pretty competitive, so it's not surprising that they would want to be timed in the 40 yd dash.

To answer the second part of your question: it's USC football related. That's kind of why people read this blog.

Lawyer John:

I agree that kickers rarely make the tackle on a kickoff. However, Buehler is like having an extra LB on the kick coverage.

Now if he just could've kicked the PAT against Stanford a little higher.... (I know...old news, beat a dead horse, etc.)

So they time them to humor them? I understand why the KICKERS would want to be timed, but the only reason I can concoct for the coaches to time them would be if the kickers were SO close in talent and ability, that the final tiebreaker would be foot speed in the event of a runback/blocked kick. Maybe I answered my own question.
