I will say one thing, you people are consistent.

Q: Maybe Scott could exercise some editorial purview and just ignore more stupid Song Girls questions. I think the topic has been covered - and then some. This is starting to read more like a Perez Hilton blog.

A: Good point. Now refresh my memory, didn't Perez date Matt Leinart?

Q: Are the TROJANS pursuing 2009 DT Edward Nuckols? It seems that they would have a better shot at him because all of the other DT's that they've offered are out of state and seem to be long shots, with the possible exception of Corey Adams out of Arizona who seems to favor ASU and OSU!!

A: He is one of many recruits being evaluated but has not been offered a scholarships. It's still early for guys who are not can't miss prospects. And the commitment of Hebron Fangupo eases some pressure to get another DT right away.

Q: With all of the recent questions, circumstances and "ISSUES" hat popped in your blog as of late, can you describe what your typical week work is like. How are you coming up with some of the information (that is firing up a lot of us) that you are putting out there. I'm just curious to see not only your response, but some of the responses from your readers. As always, good job. Fight On!

A: Every week is different. Information comes from sources, friends, interviews and sometimes complaints. One thing I've learned is that you never know what will happen next at USC. And some things (like the song girls) seem to just catch fire with the readers.

Q: The Song Girls, together with the USC Trojan Marching Band, are the most visible public face of the University, and function as the ambassadors of spirit and good will for the Trojan Family." Since the Song Girls are the public face of the university, and ambassadors of GOODWILL, one word not two ladies, their role for the trojan family is huge. Yet, they only seem to have a staff of two to administer and manage this critical resource for USC - Dr. Gilman, Advisor, and Ms. Nelson, Coach. My question is what are the backgrounds and roles of Gilman and Nelson? How do they delineate and coordinate responsibilities, what are their respective areas of expertise, and what is their level of experience? Do they have knowledge in nutrition, dancing, cheering, cosmetology, public relations, etiquette, and fashion? Do Gilman and Nelson both have votes on the highly powerful SGSC? Do they have any other university resources at their disposal....Coach Carlisle and his training staff, the football weight room, jimokes, admin staff? Thanks for shedding any light on the inner workings of this precious source of USC pride, Scottie.

A: I admit that I have not exploired this topic extensively, although I know Chris Carlisle is not involved.

Q: What is the explanation behind the significant shift in the social demographics of the Song Girls from the 1990s to now? Until the 1990s, the Song Girls were, for the most part, from very wealthy families, with many of them being children of alumni. In fact, I remember one squad in the 1990s where all but one girl was the child of an alumnus and/or alumna. Since 2000 or so, the Song Girls have come from overwhelmingly working class families, again with a few exception, with many being on financial aid and work study. The shift in social and financial demographics has been quite dramatic. Did Michael Jackson have anything to do with this? Do you know if he required that certain girls no longer be chosen so as to no longer perpetuate a stereotype? If it wasn't him, what other explanations could there be? Are certain kinds of girls that tried out in the past no longer interested in the Song Girls?

A: I don't think there is a correlation between looks and wealth. And these questions are just too much for me, I may have to start a seperate song girls forum soon.

the coach was a song girls and therefore perfect for the job. she is the main coach who hires a choreographer and travels with the girls to gigs, games, and events. she teaches the girls the correct stretches and prepares them for routines so they don’t get injured. she also helps them get ready and continue the tradition and prestige of the song girls.

the advisor takes care of and schedules the events and gigs the girls perform at. since the song girls aren't a part of athletics, they get no funding to support their travel, uniform, and choreographer costs. they raise their money through these events and gigs they perform at.

both the advisor and coach have tough jobs and i think they do a great job! keep it up!

As a recent grad, I have this to say...
4 years ago when someone was banging(ahem) a song girl it was a big deal. Now it is like banging (ahem) a girl from one of the lower sororities -- nothing to brag about and probably embarasing.
*sigh*
90 percent of the SG's purpose is to be as HOT as possible, 5 percent is to cheer at the right moments and the other 5 percent is everything else. Right now they are failing at at least 95 percent of theor purpose.
