Different Plans
Georgia coach Mark Richt recently toured the Middle East to visit U.S. troops. Last summer, he visited day-care centers in Honduras.
Conversely, Pete Carroll is making a whistle-stop tour of Trojan Clubs.

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

You know what, Scott? That's a real cheap shot. Pete Carroll spends time every month in some of the roughest areas of Los Angeles - probably a lot more dangerous than where they are letting Mark Richt venture.
We've come to expect the cheap shots, but your negativity has reached a new low.
How do you spend your time, Wolf? Why don't you write about the community service Carroll is involved in? Much more than you've ever done I'm sure.
This is a mean-spirited post, Scott. I'm certain you're going to get heat for this one and you deserve it. Shame on you.
Why are you such a bitter man Scott? You should be ashamed of yourself with all the work Pete Carroll does in the community.
Have you even recognized a Better LA? Why don't you do column/story about that?... Seems like everyone else has, networks, LA Times, etc. but not you.. Why is that Scott? hmmm
Sad, just sad...
Brent:
Anything that benefit or helps the troops morale is A+. I am NOT an SW supporter but he's entitled to his opinion just like you are. The difference is that you don't care to support the troops that enables you to speak freely your political garbage. By the same token I am NOT putting down PC's work. While on the subject the few that abuse the word hero should read the following story:
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-medal3-2008jun03,0,6503157.story
Salute to the troops!
Semper Fi
Meanwhile, Rick Neu-weasel is taking a summer tour of Indian gaming casinos between Yuma and Bakersfield and Tubby Weis is taking a Fatburger tour along the Mississippi.
Scott,
I think the phrase "If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all" is very appropriate here.
Why would you try put someone (Coach Carroll) down based on the honorable actions of another (Coach Richt)? You should feel very embarassed for posting garbage like that, especially given Coach Carroll's own honorable work at USC and in the innercity.
Fight On!
DFW, I think Weiss was on that same tour with Richt, although I may be thinking of some other trip to the middle east.
Captain, I think what Brent was saying is that they probably didn't send Richt into very heavy combat zones for his safety. Thank you for serving our country, but take a chill pill and get over yourself.
Scott:
Let me try and figure it out. A coach doesn't want to deal with your BS on a daily basis and eventually falls out of your favor. So you just blog about them negatively trying to build up bad sentiment about them and yearn for something else.
Not sure what makes you do this Scott. Maybe it is because you are stuck as a beat writer for a college program and realize that your days in print are number.
The dumbest comment that media memebers make is that if they have ruffled someones feather it shows they are doing a good job. Just because write something controversial or with an opinion that is way off base to stir up the pot doesn't make it right.
Stick to what you do well Scott. Finding out stories about the Trojans Football team that are interesting that no one else is willing to work hard enough to get. Stop resting on your past hard work and now try to stir up contorversy with every comment.
Taxi:
Let Brent speak for himself. Furthermore you don't know where coach Richt specifically went. It doesn't matter wether he went to dangerous combat zones or NOT. The fact that he spent time visiting the troops speaks for itself. Take your chill pill to drano your large intestine...
I usually support Scott Wolf but that is a cheap shot and an intellectually lazy blog entry. I always thought you were above the LETS THROW RED MEAT TO THE CROWD histrionics, SW.
Add this to the fact that Mr. Wolf is paranoid about leaks from the USC Sports Information office, and you see why my esteem for him is really fading fast. Word travels fast, Scott, and you need to stop brow beating USC just because a few posters know what's going on.
Nixon did not last long and you won't either at this rate!
Pete is not perfect but to make one sided misleading and condemning statements is just plain childish. I read this blog to get objective inside information regarding USC athletics, not to get OP EDS based on personal vendettas. As much as I respect Mark Richt, I also can respect Pete Carroll for what he does in the community!
Think Scott's been on the USC beat toooooo long. 12 years!! The Daily News should switch Scott and Tony Jackson. I wonder what nickname Scott would think up for Joe Torre.
Totally below the belt Scottie boy!
Who is paying Pete's salary? Why shouldn't Pete tour the Trojan clubs who help pay his salary and thank them for all of their support? Pete has a BetterLA. What do you have Scottie boy?
Heck, Richt's got to get his frequent flier miles somehow considering no team has traveled less for its non-conference games in recent years than his Georgia Bulldogs...all of 358 miles, to be exact.
Lets not all get our tighty whities all in a bunch boys and girls. As we all know, SW covets the SEC and their "tough" schedule. Somehow he'll come up with some great excuse to rank them so how all while overlooking Georgia's out of conference schedule to start the 2008 season. Clearly home games against powerhouses Georgia Southern and Central Michigan won't properly prepare his team when they visit Arizona State, so Richt's got to see what the desert heat is all about! It's a dry heat Mark!!
Pitiful Scott. What is really ironic about your inappropriate and cheap shots is that they have eroded your credibility on the subjects you really should be writing about, ie you shot yourself in the foot.
SW, I could add my two cents, but everyone else (with the exception of one) has said it so very well. DFWTrojan that was absolutely funny as hell. Fight On!
Between all the childish song girl entries and the "I'm being monitored" foolishness I wondered if there were any new depths for Scott to hit and he did... in the same day no less.
Congratulations Scott, June 2, 2008. The day you killed your blog.
Scott,
I love it!! The way you manipulate these people is classic! These morons take the bait every time. So funny. Keep it up!
And btw, all Pete should be doing is trying to figure out how he is going to win the National Championship. Nothing else. Something of course he hasnt done in the last three years despite having the most talent in the country.
We all have seen how Carroll and Wolf exchange good-natured "pleasantries" in videos. Quite frankly, this is how men relate to each other, teasing/kidding/even ridiculing, and most guys take it the way it was intended.
Carroll gives as good as he takes, and so does Wolf. I could see Wolf telling his little joke straight at Carroll's face. Carroll would probably respond with something like, "Well Wolfie, it's true, and how much time have you devoted to your favorite charities this year?"
Really USC'89? You're commending this blog entry? But you're right...three whole years without a NC???!!! Forshame Pete! I can't believe PC would waste his time helping the less fortunate when there are more important things out there like USC'89 opinion! Geez, buddy, what a sad, lonely life you lead. I just pray you don't have children.
You are totally missing the point, Lawyer John. Pete Carroll doesn't use his job to take cheap shots at Scott Wolf. Wolf's clinical obsession with a) himself and b) taking cheap, unfunny shots at any USC-related individual he can (all of whom, not coincidentally, passed Scott's level of success on the vocational scale when they were in their early 20s) is a poor reflection on himself and the Daily News. As though the Daily News needed less journalistic credibility.
I have no doubt that you are correct - I'm sure Carroll does give as good as he takes. The question is - why is this blog entry necessary or even desirable?
The blog entry is essentially a lie of omission since PC gives so much back to the South LA community that he works in. The implication is that USC's head coach is somehow derelict in giving back and paying forward when compared to other national coaches.

Again I am NOT an SW supporter. First he's entitled to his opinion. Secondly this is his blog. Either you accept those two like adults or don't visit this blog and move-on. IT is that simple. Thirdly accept the fact that you can't mess with the troops regardless of the war unpopularity. Once more anything that deals with OUR troops is NOT a cheap shot>END of the story.
Thank you
LAWYER JOHN: all you have to do is look at PC's and Scott's exchange regarding the cancellation of the television show Pete liked - It's clear from that that Pete has zero respect for Scott or his intelligence. Zero.
This isn't friendly banter, this is just another cheap shot on Scott's part, and it's immensely childish whatever the reason - manipulating his readers or implying another person lacks charity. Scott just proves once again what a small-minded, mean-spirited douche he his. Scott, you're over 40, get over it already.
Hey Capitan, even though it’s his blog Wolf is using our troops as an excuse to bag on Pete Carroll. He’s totally wrong about that man! Respect our troops. I don’t agree with you that “anything that deals with OUR troops is NOT a cheap shot>END of the story.”
Nice snarky post, Wolf. Are you aware that all proceeds from the tour events are to go to the Mario Danelo and Ryan Francis Scholarship funds? Seems worthwhile to me. And as others have posted, Pete Carroll has a well documented history of being involved with the community, especially with respect to A Better L.A. -- well documented everywhere except the pages of the Daily News.
The tenor of the post suggests that Pete Carroll was invited to visit the troops and turned down the invite. Unless that's true, then, yes, it's a cheap shot.
Very nice add, SCinSausie. And, great take trojay. Good info eventualy came from this post by savvy commenters. The SEC powerhouses' creampuff non-conference schedules is nauseating and should beget an NCAA minimum schedule rule. LSU has 8 HOME GAMES and only 4 aways this year! That is a travesty, and don't try to sell me any of "their tough conference schedule" crap. I'm not buying it.
The Chronicles has a good take on this post.

DFTW, thanks for the link. Apparently SW is loved all around the LA basin. Fight On!
what an awful, awful cheap shot. After all PC does for the community. Now you expect him to want to give you quotes and interviews? I hope he snubs you every time. I, for one, will. This is the last time I will ever view your blog. I will also no longer read the Daily News online or in print until you are fired or leave. Think before you post cheap shots.
