Dissent Of The Day

A former USC spirit squad member sends this email.

``Basically, I think if one really wanted to look at how to get the Song Girls "fixed", not only do you look at the nepotism, but look at the spending habits, why the girls quit and move on, and where does all the money from events and stuff go?  Also, how do they keep the USC competition cheer team from ever getting to perform at athletic events?  Or the new spirit squad or whatever it is.  Or the poor treatment by those in power towards the Dance Force.''

After everything that's been revealed with this topic, it's not surprising.

It is not the grammar I have a problem with, but the meaning of what she is saying. It is a rather sophomoric ranting.

But I believe the complaint in part is that the spirit squad and the dance force do not receive the respect they deserve.

Quite frankly, I like the dance force because being a dancer myself I can relate better to their more modern wild style than the song girls "proper" traditional dancing.

And since they have done away with formal cheerleaders, the spirit squad should take a more visible presence. Some cheers I would love to hear as staples are as follows:
"We are SC, We are SC, We are SC." (heard sometimes, but not enough);
Or a USC chant similar to USA, USA, USA, but of course it would sound out as "USC, USC, USC."
"Here come the Trojans, Here come the Trojans etc"
"Let's go Trojans, Let's go Trojans"
"Go SC, Go SC" (that one is used on a consistent basis)
"Trojans, Trojans, Trojans"

I admit, I am a frustrated cheerleader, and modesty aside, I would make a good one because of my irrational passion for SC sports. But since I am not going to be appointed as an SC cheerleader, I will continue to will the idea of more effective cheers for SC.

I don't see why people have these hang ups with how she expressed herself conversationally. Rant? Pretty strong; seemed more like venting frustrations which if well founded are cause for concern. Is there misuse of funds? Is there nepotism? Is there favoritism? If so we should be as frustrated and perturbed as she is. Oh hell, who am I kidding. I just want them to get a few more hot chicks. Is that so wrong?

The complexity of this story reminds me a bit of Watergate - if Watergate were 1000 times more pointless and completely assinine. Is Scott seriously quoting anonymous sources now? For this?

When is this story gonna die? It's a complex investigation involving girls in white cotton sweaters jumping around in 90 degree heat. I guess USC's football program is doing so well now that even journalists have to fins something else to write about.

Scott, where do you find the time to do any actual investigative journalism when you're clearly so busy writing these inane blog posts? This has got to be the most embarassing waste of time I've ever seen by any "serious" print journalist.

Are you guys really confusing Scott with a journalist? A guy who sits in his mother's basement and lobs anonymous insults at co-eds is just a ridiculous turd, who should not be confused with a legitimate journalist. By the way, Scotty boy, what sport did you play at 'SC?

I think Scott, like a lot of people, just want hotter Song Girls. And there's a lot of impropriety, it seems, in regards to choosing girls. The Song Girl squad is now a national joke and it's been embarassing for many of us who want a squad we can be proud of.

Watergate, frustrated cheerleaders, Scott Wolfe in his mother's basement...

I think everyone's touched on a bit of the true story in this thread.

Here's my theory:
Wolf knew all about the Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo allegations, he could have broken those stories but didn't want either of them to be the defining moment in his career. He wanted to be known for his contributions to the true passion in life - cheerleading. Changing the way the USC Song Girls are chosen would be his legacy. His true goal is (along with the Pulitzer Prize) is to take control of the program.

His 3AM posts from his mother's basement are on the incoherent side but it's as much as one can expect after hours of perfecting the performances from his favorite Kristen Dunst epic, Bring it On. My guess is that inside the "Mitch and Me" folder on his computer's desktop you'll find his true opus about the Song Girls. "The Scott Wolf Cheertatorship."

Everybody keeps carping on the female cheerleaders, but the men lost out too when they were replaced by the so-called spirit squad. With that, SC lost an important component of improving its home field advantage with formal, organized cheerleading.

"I am a frustrated cheerleader" – Wow John, I didn't see that one coming.

First a lawyer, then dancer and cheerleader. What's next, acting?

Or was that really you in the timeless epic, "Dazed and Confused" who uttered the immortal battle cry, "I just wanna dance!"?

Dance er, Fight On! (J/K dude)

just to clairfy John, dude's doing pushups on top of each other was not good for our team, or anyone else. scrapping the yell leaders was a good call.

To Dirk Diggler, Grover and Sureshot:

As they say in football, once you step between the lines you better be able to take the heat.

Come on, gents, you are dancers, too. Everybody dances. I just go clubbing more than the average Joe is all.

And as for cheerleading, haven't you ever had the urge to stand up in your section at a football game and exhort your fellow Trojans to yell for the team? I am sure you have.
