This is a football and song girl session.
Q: Any truth to the rumor that you and Pete Carroll will star in a new reality TV show. The plot? One guy coaches the best football team West of the Rockies, while the other spends his days looking for new spins on how to make silly remarks about his alma mater. Sounds like that TV show would be about as entertaining as reading this blog.
A: We've already decided to pitch the show, but best football team west of the Rockies sets the bar a little low, especially if we're going to call it Caesar and Co. So we'll make it best football team of the universe and go from there. Episode 1 involves Caesar explaining how he withheld the ``Win Forvever'' philosophy from the New York Jets and New England Patriots because they were not ready for such a revolutionary concept.
Q: About this time a year ago, I asked you to give three names of recruits who had not yet committed, but who you thought were most likely to.
Your answer was amazingly accurate---so, can you give us 3 names, currently uncommitted, who are likely to sign in Feb. '09? I know it's a little early, but can you take your best shot? Thanks.
A: It's a little too early. Ask me in 3 weeks.
Q: Now that we've gone back to 1985 with the Song Girls (great picture, by the way), should we be expecting you to also post a song by Journey featuring the great Steve Perry anytime soon? What about a poster for Rocky IV or The Karate Kid? Do you think this Ted Tollner fellow is going to work out and bring USC several national championships before he's done and rides off into the sunset? Have you heard the prophecy that in about three years, The Chosen One will be born in Arkansas and he will lead us to The Promised Land in 23 years time?
A: You forgot that Pac-10 basketball title in '85, the last one ever won by USC.
Q: If the coach of the Song Girls, Lori Nelson, claims that the Song Girls are picked purely on dancing ability rather than physical attractiveness, and uses that as an excuse for why the Song Girls have been so hideously ugly since 2000 or so, I refer you to a very in-depth article on the selection process of Song Girls in the Los Angeles Times Magazine, written by one of the original 1967 Song Girls, Celeste Fremon, dated September 8, 1991, titled "Dream Team The Basic Training of America's Ultimate Song Girls" where Ms Nelson states:
"With us it's more like 50-50. The girl has to be a really great dancer, of course. But, no matter how good she is, if she doesn't have the look, forget it."
So isn't Ms Nelson being a hypocrite these days by defending her selection of ugly girls over beautiful girls? Has she not been caught in her own lie? Is it not time for her to leave her position and have someone more knowledgeable and professional run the Song Girls?
A: I remember this article but I do not have a copy. I'd add that ``who you know'' can easily be added to having the ``look'' or dance ability.
Q: How come you didn't talk to Petros when he was a student?
A: As I told Petros, I only talked to people who played.
Q: Hey Scott can you give an update on the new football facility? Thanks. next question is about women's soccer who won the NCAA championship had to play on the road because the USC soccer field is not adequate enough to host an NCAA postseason game? What's Garrett doing about that? It's embarrassing to the school. Any plans for renovation or a new soccer facility??
A: The football facility specs are being done but nothing can be done until the Lucas cinema building is completed in the fall, because the music school must move to a new facility with football taking the space. I haven't heard any plans for a renovated soccer facility yet.
