Here's a solid block of answers.

Q: Thanks for the flashback pictures of the Song Girls, they have only strengthened my belief that the Song Girls are clearly not what they used to be and filled with girls who could never have even dreamed of trying out for the squad in the past. So let me ask you this, does the coach of the Song Girls believe that the Song Girls are somehow her own personal entity, with which she can do whatever she wants, regardless of how it is affecting the reputation and tradition of the Song Girls and the university? Clearly she has engaged in serious nepotism with her job duties, so is she not held accountable for her actions by anyone within the university? Does she not care what she has allowed the Song Girls to become during these past eight or nine years?

A: I really don't know how it works on the inside, only the results and the comments of some girls who were part of the process. But I think it would be interesting to hear some more on this subject, especially as it relates to accountability.

Q: Scott, if the university admin does decide to respect the wishes of the alumni in replacing SG Coach Nelson and Advisor Gilman, then they obviously need to go after a high profile, experienced coach who can return the state of the SGs to their glory days. Any possibility that we could land one of the rockstar candidates below, and if so, who would be your first choice as new SG Coach?

1) Laraine Raish - Coach, U of Oregon. Look at the squad, and what a great website! http://cheer.uoregon.edu/squad/index.html
2) Kelli Finglass - Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Director
3) Jeannie Buss - Alum!
4) Karren Kovac - Raiderettes Director
5) Kate Hutter - LA Contemporary Dance Artistic Director, Alum!

A: After looking at the Ducks site, I'm all for Laraine Raish, although I suspect Phil Knight would never allow her to leave Eugene. Perhaps Oregon would accept Steve Sarkisian in a trade, since Knight wanted him a few years ago.

Q: On the website for the Oregon cheerleaders, there is an application form and it states (this is a direct quote): "We want to see a toned, physically fit cheerleader."

There is no such similar statement on the application for the USC Song Girls. In fact, there is no mention of physical appearance whatsoever. Is that not part, but certainly not all, of the problem that is the present day Song Girls?

A: Again, it all goes back to the selection committee.

Q: Tim Tessalone mysteriously joined the selection committee of the Song Girls after the daughter of the Song Girls coach was caught cheering for the other team during a game. This leads me to believe that Tesselone was put on the selection committee by someone in the university administration to make sure that only girls who actually know the rules of football can be selected as Song Girls in order to prevent any future embarrassing incidents. So could it be that attractive girls simply do not know the rules of football so they have not been able to make the squad based on this criterion, leaving only unattractive girls on the squad, simply because they happen to know the rules of football?

A: A nice theory but the girls from 1985 seemed to know football pretty well, so I don't think we can assume a correlation between the two.

Has anyone heard anything lately about Aaron Corp?

I never did hear a comment from him on Matt Barkley committing.

I think there was a quote from him saying this year's QB competition was exciting but after Mark Sanchez was announced as a starter I didn't read anything else. Wolf questioned whether it was a real competition or just for show. Of course Wolf is often a childish instigator but the theory is still out there.

Sure, he's commented about as much as you'd expect on Matt Barkley committing. I'd describe what I've read as being professional, very aware of the competition, but still confident.

I recall a concise set of comments right after a game this spring that Corp attended. You should be able to find them on Google, but here are a couple of other recent articles on the topic:

I recall reading somewhere that Corp said that at the time he committed, he obviously didn't know that Mustain would transfer, so the competitive landscape was not what he expected when he signed with SC. Then, he said something very professional about how you can't escape competition at SC and knowing about Mustain probably wouldn't have changed his mind. Anyway, I really hope that Corp gets at least one full season as the starter. I believe he is good enough to hold off young Barkley, and he might even beat out Mustain in two seasons when Sanchez leaves.

mbgreeni -

I have said it before and I'll say it again, out of 14 girls on the current Song Girl squad, the breakdown is as follows:

Pretty: 2
Cute: 1
Puke: 11

Now do you really want me to name them and embarrass the ones who are hideous as sin? Because I can. I do know them by name. But I'll be kind and not name them so the ugly ones may think they fall into the category of attractive.
