Answers, Part 5
Maybe the Oregon cheerleaders have a TV show because they are in the entertainment capital of the world, Eugene, Ore.
Q: For those of us who could careless about the endless bantering over the SG's, but who still find your other insights informative, can you answer questions about the SG's in a separate sections.
A: We are definitely headed in that direction.
Q: Scott, as there really isn't much else to talk about until camp starts on Aug 6, and really no issue more disheartening to the proud Trojan family than SG-gate, I will stay on topic. Which reason below, in your opinion, is the major cause of decline in the "face of the university" SGs' program:
A) the excellent Celeste Fremon expose' created some discomfort with the administration leading to a de-emphasis on "The Look", or hereafter "The Pillsbury", as a selection criteria
B) the university's ever-rising academic profile has resulted in a more homely student demographic
C) a stale program with no innovation is no longer competive for blue chip cheer talent with other Pac-10 leaders...no partial scholarships, booster support, class credit, tutor benefits, complimentary game tickets, etc.
D) incompetent administration under the Student Affair's beaurocracy - no IM-Director supervisory oversight, Co-Coach Dolly Rouse leaves with no replacement, lost in the Student Affairs' beaurocratic machine
E) cronyism, nepotism and corruption.
A: If you walk around campus, you will definitely say that ``B" is not a reason. I think the answer rests mainly on ``E,'' and this is where the athletic dept. does not want to focus.
Q: What was the university's official reason for eliminating the Yell Leaders?
A: The reasons I was given were that they were out of date and a fresher approach was needed to liven up the crowd.

Dear Scott,
Just wanted to say goodbye. Your blog has now become unreadable. Can no longer bear the abundance of CHEERLEADER banter and the dearth of any real content, football or otherwise...

MikeD- It's the off-season, man. What is there to talk about? How fast did Rojo sprint around cones during the team's work-out? The football talk will pick up soon enough, and then we can all get back to what really matters in the world . . . Mitch Mustain and his wobbly passes. In the meantime, what's wrong with a little cheerleader talk? And besides, if you're looking for any true football insight from Wolf, you will forever be disappointed.
Thank You Free Lendale! I'm sure this talk will die down one camp starts! Until then, I think it is a good thing because maybe all this banter will get the athletic dept to fix the situation. I mean I pay good money for good seats, and I need something to look at during timeouts. FIGHT ON!
Why do people get their panties in such a bunch with just a little bit of cheerleader talk?
The fact of the matter is, this all seems silly on the surface, but the Song Girls are one of USC's most longstanding traditions. But thanks to corruption and nepotism, the program has just produced nothing but catastrophic disasters year after year for a whole decade.
I think many of us just want the tradition and the glory restored. That's why Tricia Pillsbury's photo really triggered so many reactions because that image was what the Song Girls use to epitomize.
This blog is actually great because we can all be candid and be real about the corruption in the program. We don't pander to anyone. And I actually applaud SW for not censoring this stuff because the truth is, the Song Girls have become an embarassment.
I agree with scott in terms of the 'homely student body', one walk around campus is all the evidence you need (stay away from the e-quad). If anything, the standard deviation of quality of student body has grown.
However, i would also say that talk of the song girls has grown monotonous and repetetive. As sad as it seems, any talk of even how our athletes are working out would seem a welcome reprise - or any news about them for that matter. Or is it a good thing that the football team isn't making news?
Love everyone's passion about the cheerleaders. Just thought it would be great to blog about something else once in a while. If I wanted to read/see cheerleaders all the time I would go onto Sports By Brooks or something like that.
As far as ROJO's 40 time, not really what I am referring to.
Fight (Fantasize) on!

Welcome back, Mike D!
