Barkley Honored

| | Comments (8) |

Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley was named the Gatorade High School Male Athlete of the Year today at a luncheon that featured USC alumni Matt Leinart and Allyson Felix. Let's hope when it comes to off-field behavior, he mirrors Felix more than Leinart.
Barkley was the first non-senior to win the award.

Or Scott Wolf, for that matter.

Lets hope his off field behavior doesn't mirror:
Frostee Rucker, Eric Wright, Reggie Bush, OJ Simpson, Todd Marinovich, Keyshawn Johnson, Darrell Russell, Winston Justice, R. Jay Soward, Cole Ford, Hershel Dennis, Rey Maualuga, or Mark Sanchez.

Gotta hand it to that Miguelito. If there is some SC dirt to be found he will dig deep for it.

Now, to give us a balanced report, Miguelito, can you give us a list of all the bad little-bears at UGLA over the years?

Leinart's off-field behavior is much better than most. Give the guy a break for having a child out of wedlock. It's not a crime, and neither is having a beer with a girl during the offseason. Fight on, Matt!

You guys are focusing on the negative slant of this post introduced (of course) by Wolf. Don't get sucked down to that level.

Matt joins the likes of Emmitt Smith, Peyton Manning, and our very own Jeff Byers and the "adopted" Mitch Mustain. Congratulations to Barkley, that is quite a prestigious honor, especially being the first junior to ever receive that award.

But Scott, let's hope that when it comes to on-field behavior, he does mirror Leinart. I certainly wouldn't mind a few more national championships.

Personally, I like the idea of SC's QB, or any other position, living a Heffner-esque lifestyle.

As long as he wins, may his unit see more action than a Jackie Chan movie.

If he loses, then same goes, but I hope the girls are ugly.

At least no former Trojan is serving 41 years in Federal Prison.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
