Cancelled

| | Comments (14) |

We hear that Fox Sports Net (Prime Ticket) canceled the ``Trojan Rewind'' show and will no longer televise Pete Carroll's Tuesday press conferences. With more than one local sports channel, it's hard to believe Carroll does not have a coaches' show, like so many other college programs. Something doesn't add up here.
Perhaps Caesar doesn't sway the masses like we thought or he is a victim of poor promotion.

I blame it on the Song Girls.

Ratings can be very difficult to figure. Although Pete is immensely popular, just perhaps not enough folks are willing to tune in to see the aforementioned shows. In Los Angeles, how could that be considered unusual? MJDavidson

It is just simply overload. Torre, Jackson, Carroll, the UGLA coaches, and the lesser sports' coaches-- this thins out the fan base and does not leave a large enough audience for any one sport's personality to obtain solid enough ratings to justify placing him on the tube.

How does Torre or Jackson or the ucla having shows thin out USC's fan base ? Maybe these shows just sucked ? Rewind with that TROLL Pete Gasbag ArboGAS and a presser in which you can't hear the questions ? Yeah, that's must see TV

The Rewind is a helpful tool for teaching young and old about football. It is a shame they have cancelled this. All FOX rewinds throughout the west have been cancelled which is a bummer for students of football who like to observe the finer nuances of other pac-10 teams.

BTW Rah Rah your comment above comes off as quite disturbing. For over thirty years I have watched Pete Arbogast support youth sports through volunteer coaching, help up and coming sports broadcasters and on many occasions has helped with community projects with just a phone call. My students recently were looking at a piece in the Daily News that Hovarth wrote - seems like you two are two peas in a pod. On behalf of my students, why the hate? Up and coming journalists would like some facts to back up the opinions. When asking Hovarth he had no comment. SO now my students want to know why a journalist wouldn't return their email.

I have this channel, and for whatever reason, they don't like USC much. They re-play alot of old Pac 10 games, but only show the USC ones in which USC lost. You will see all kinds of games by the other teams, then the 2006 USC game vs. UCLA, the 2007 USC game vs. Stanford, and the 2007 USC game vs. Oregon..hahah

That sucks, I am in Michigan and it's hard enough already to get good USC info...I watched trojan rewind all the time and the PC presser every week.

It's hard for me to believe that I'm in agreement with RI. He's right a lot of people with Directv watched/recorded the "Trojan Rewind" show to keep themselves informed(PC's news conference included). That is certainly a big blow to the east coast Trojan fans.
Thanks

Couldnt agree more Rah Rah. I liked the Rewind show for the different angles and occasional view into what was going on along the sidelines. PCs PC will not be missed. You can basically predict what Pete is going to say every week. The only thing Ill miss is a game I created about Pete called "Pumped, Jacked or Psyched".

You are spot on in regards to Argo-a-gast. In a town known for legendary broadcasters, how is it USC ends up with such a dumpy loser during this era? Arblow is the Ted Baxter of radio play-by-play guys. Arblow is very fortunate his contract is with USC and not the station that broadcasts the games. If that was the case, he would be long gone. He will forever be tagged as the guy so desperate he lowered himself to campaigning on USC message boards for fans to call/write the station broadcasting USCs games and ask they give him a job. Of course it failed miserably since that station, and the entire broadcast industry, wants nothing to do with Arblow. We as fans, and especially us boosters, deserve better.

Scott, How about a Spotlight Question or Question of the Day nod for old T & T? I asked this question on July 11th in the Open Forum:

Just a quick hitter before I forget. An official in the USC Athletic Department hinted that the popular TROJAN REWIND show on PT/FSW has been cancelled for 2008. The alternative camera angles and the on-field sound made it must-see TV during the season. Scotty, can you investigate and provide details?

Much Respect,
"Troy"

I wonder if this has anything to do with a desire by the university to increase subscriptions and acceptance of TrojanTV? I watched Rewind weekly from TX. Too bad.

Arblow wouldn't be employed in LA if it wasn't for USC...funny, I don't see Vin Scully, Ralph Lawler or Bob Miller writing a blog on websites....

Personally (and I apparently am in the minority here) like Peter Arbogast. Although his "how do you do" doesn't hold a candle to my all-time favorite college announcer, Keith Jackson's "Whoa, nellie!", I still enjoy his stuff.

And I must say that I am REALLY disappointed that that crappy Fox station is putting a stop to the Trojan Rewind show. That was an excellent way to keep each game compressed into a tidy little half hour package. I don't know about you guys, but come mid April, I get a big hankering for some SC football, and it's nice to pull up one of our marquee victories on TIVO to get by.

Just last week, I watched the Replay of the '05 Notre Dame game. Good stuff to see DJ haul in the fourth and 9 and to watch the Bush Push all over again. I can't keep 12 four hour games on my DVR now (especially in high-def).

What's an SC fan to do???

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
