Golden Ruel

Dennis Dodd of CBS Sportsline, who is one of the hardest-working college football reporters, rated Pat Ruel as the top offensive line coach in the nation. And UCLA's Norm Chow as the top offensive coordinator.

wanna know why dennis dodd wrote that?

he was busy that week...ok let's see...throw norm chow in as top OC...pick some guy from USC they are always good...OK yeah...Pat Ruel is top line coach...

Norm Chow is washed up the friggin' guy got fired from the titans really hard to see him as #1...

Yeah, coaches who wash out of the NFL are worthless. They could never be Conference Champion for six years in a row, or win a pair or National Championships.

The article proves Dodd is as lazy as SW.

We are hating Norm Chow because he works at the extension school now? We are deluding ourselves that he sucks now?

Someone who by any objective measure has been the best OC- his work with all parts of an offense especially QB's, being the OC for championship teams that were consistently much better offenses than defenses, the HT winners, etc. now sucks just because he is at UCLA?

We are using a bad NFL year with a crappy team with a not-so-bright, first year QB who was calling out his WRs as sucky during games as the reason Chow is no good?

Okay. I'm with it.

As much as I hope Norm has lost it and sh!+s the bed this year and the next and the next, the truth is I think the coaching changes over there will shake things up and FUCLA will be a pac-10 contender in the next few years. Norm will be a big part of that.

Socal has a lot of talented kids every year and SC can't get them all. If they start getting decent athletes, Norm will find a way to use them effectively and SC's last game of the year will get more interesting.

But I'm still hoping he dies in a fire.

I was with you until that last line. I know that was supposed to be funny, but burning to death has to be the worst possible way to die. Don't even joke about that. And, yes, I'm relating to something personal.

Here's a different perspective. UCLA will take at least 2-3 years of good recruiting to load up to a competitive level of talent, and that's IF they recruit well. Chow's offense, the early 2000s SC offense, has been studied extensively and partially mastered by Pac 10 D coordinators. Sarkisian has adjusted the Chow offense significantly since, and Chow will catch no one by surprise or ill-prepared for his schemes. Chow and Neuheisel will also butt heads over the offensive play calling and scheming. Chow is 65, I believe, and will retire in a few years before UCLA contends for the conference again. Three or four years from now, Neuheisel will not have a contending conference team to show for his efforts, Chow will have retired, and Walker will be hired away as a head coach. Neu-weasel will be on the hot seat in Westwood, while PC continues to dominate the Pac-10. I hope!

Obviously I don't mean to offend, so apologies to uscfd.

And good points DFW. But I seem to remember Norm being a master at catering the offense and creating plays for the best players on the team. Remember the quick throws to Mike Williams that were good for 10+ yards every time since it took at least 2 DBs to bring him down? And the way he used Reggie, they haven't figured that one out in New Orleans yet. I think he probably has some tricks up his sleeve still.

But just to avoid any possible confusion of where my allegiances lay, screw him!

Norm chow is still one of the very best offensive coordinators around. His strongest suit is his ability to attack other defenses - i.e. playcalling. There are none better in any league.

"There are none better in any league". That is a mighty strong claim that you can NOT possibly back-up period. Add the fact that you have opened a huge can of worms that you do NOT have any business doing. before I continue I like NC and I agree that he is a great OC. As a FB fan I draw the line right there. Have you ever heard of a former Trojan QB named Mike Holmgren? He learned from the MASTER QB guru/OC named Bill Walsh. Mike Holmgren is Master II! He ONLY developed NFL QB's Bret Favre and Matt Hassellback>that's ALL!
Thank you
