Say What?
Item: Notre Dame will honor 2008 College Football Hall of Fame inductee coach Lou Holtz with a life-sized statue near Notre Dame Stadium.
OK, so it's not quite to the level of giving USC band director Art Bartner a statue on campus (I'm not joking), but how did Holtz merit a statue? Is it merely because Notre Dame's been fairly mediocre since his departure? If Holtz gets a life-sized statue, what does Knute Rockne get? A 200-foot statue?
But hey, at least they won't wipe Rockne's name off a sign, like USC essentially did when it decided to demean legendary coach Howard Jones by making him share billing on the practice field sign that bears his name.

Is there going to be a placard anywhere explaining his recruiting violations in Minnesota?

Is it true ND is in negotations to buy a 2-acre plot adjacent to the campus so as to assure there will be enough room for the lifesize Weiss statue? I mean, if you knew you would be on national t.v. for 3-months out of every year, wouldn't you go on a crash diet to look your best? I don't usually attack the way someone looks, but his obesity is something he could do something about, but chooses not to.

Oh really? ALL you ever do is attack the way someone looks. You have attacked every cheerleader for the way they look, constantly claiming they are not attractive, pointing out why you claim they are not attractive, then claiming your wife is far more attractive than all of them.

I think what I said was that these cheerleaders displayed, except for Ms. Pillsbury, were ordinary looking teenage girls, and how I was surprised at how some of the bloggers went bonkers over them. Besides, the cheerleaders shown on this blog were basically anonymous groups of women, espcially Oregon's, and commenting on them is a far cry from criticism directed to identifiable individuals.
I know some bloggers accuse me of having no credibilty with women, and they can say what they wish, talk is cheap, and I know who I am. But I was the only one on this blog that put his money where his mouth is, inviting the cynical ones to give me their e-mail address and I would have shown them a truly beautiful woman, yes even better than the lovely Ms. Pillsbury. Guaranteed! And none complied. So there you have it.
One final (God, I hope) note on the cheerleaders. I would take SC's current girls over Oregon's, although I am in a minority of one on that one. Oregon's all look alike, whereas SC's are diverse and more interesting looking. That is the picture I would like to present to the world, SC being a cosmopolitan, world-invested university.
Wolfie, only you could take a Notre Dame story and use it to take a swipe at SC.
But I'm sure it was justified. I mean Bartner's only mentored the country's best band, which happens to be a collegiate icon, for about half a decade. And Kennedy only gave SC a few million bucks.

He's been leading the band since around the late 60s, early 70s and its reputation has been very high during most of his tenure.

Yes, I hear that the Lou Holtz statue is going to have extra functionality as a kiddie drinking fountain, since it will only be 3 feet high. LJohn, I'll take you up. A statute for the SC band director? No wonder we have gone so downhill with the cheerleaders with such stupid administrative decisionmaking. Pete Carroll is the only one who deserves such an honor.
