Williams Cut

| | Comments (13) |

Former USC wide receiver Mike Williams was cut today by the Tennessee Titans.
``I just wasn't seeing the production, and when you get in a situation where you don't see the production, and you've got a young group of receivers that are emerging, I just felt like it was in our best interests to let him go at this point," coach Jeff Fisher said. "Maybe Mike can hook on some place else."

What a shame. He's really a good guy, got on the wrong track. Should have stayed at SC. DUH! Hope he gets his shi$ together and can be productive. Jeff is a true Trojan and I'm sure he even gave him the benefit of the doubt. Go MIKE!

Wish I could find my post on USCFootball.com that I submitted 5 YEARS AGO when I said this guy was going to be a total bust-out.

How did I know? Because all Mike cared about was himself and "gettin' payeeeeed". Well Mike can now hang out with his mentor, Maurice Clarrett, as much as he wants.

Mike should have shown a little more grattitude to the Universitry that actually recruited him as a WR (others did not), gave him the chance to prove himself and made him the player we was and stuck around a few more years. Instead, he showed his true colors by bolting the second the door was even slightly open (ignoring the advice of Pete Carroll mind you).

Mike was a great college player, but blew it bigtime.

Funny thing is, the guy everyone called "the next Mike Williams" is well on his way to becoming just that, if he doesnt get his act together soon.

The sad thing is that noone will recall the 'Mike Williams mistake." Certainly not kids who are potential NFL material. Mike did come out too early, in hindsight, but at the time he looked like a sure-thing NFL receiver. And again, in hindsight, another year of seasoning at SC would probably have done wonders for his NFL longevity.

But you cannot tell kids this. These high schools kids are greater than slice bread in high school, and are told how they are "all-universe."

So most of them, maybe all of them, are itching for that NFL MONEY. Can't blame them-- I like money, too, but I know I will never get it with my athletic "talent."

out of all the 1st day picks Pete has coached, only 3 of them seem to live up to the hype: Steve Smith, Loafer de pupu, and Lendale White.

If I'm remembering correctly, Mike Williams had an upbringing where money was tight. I kind of cut him a little slack for taking the money when his stock was high. Another year in college would have probably helped his game immensely but chances are low that he goes higher than the tenth pick. And of course there's the risk of injury or having a down year.

Never heard a bad thing about him as a person, best of luck to him in finding a team.

Mike Jarrett? Dwayne Williams? Mike-wayne Jarwillett?

The thing is that "blowing it" was largely apparently a result of factors he controlled. When he was with Detroit, he managed to actually LOSE more money in the NFL due to fines for being late and overweight than he got paid (that is fact - look it up). So, he got cut and had his isseus because to my eyes he failed to take his gift and opportunity seriously. And clearly school and getting some education never entered his mine. Good call on Maurice Clarett.

More than just Lofa Tatupa, Steve Smith and LenDale White have lived up to the hype. Personally I am surprised you would say a guy like LenDale has been successful and not Carson Palmer and Troy Polamalu. Both of them are in the top 5 in the NFL at their respective positions.

What hurt him the most was missing a whole season of football after leaving USC and then having the "No Fun League" tell him come back next year. He became too independent and lazy without real coaching.

I forgot Troy Palamalu, he is one of the best safeties in the league... I will give you that, but Carson Palmer had 1 good year. Lendale White will get better, he's big and can run up the middle. He will be a productive NFL running back when all is said and done. Carson Palmer will never be a Troy Aikman, he doesn't have the leadership qualities to lead any team to the Super Bowl. Actually, I don't think there has ever been a Trojan QB to lead his team to a Super Bowl.

I am aware of ALL your "arguments" dip$#*T. I am also aware that USC according to the last US News article USC is rated #27 academically. I am also aware of all the sports championships(94 the last time I checked) by USC. Stanford 100 and UCLA 96.
Now you damn coward stupid son of a female dog cool your fecal content down, OK? This is FREE country and I Say what the hell I want and root for whatever sports team I care to choose and YES MORONIC CLOWN that includes USC. It does NOT matter whether I attended USC or NOT. NO, I did NOT attend USC. So damn what! Is that a blipping crime you rectum hole?
Finally I simply meant the song girls subject is out of hand period and the football talk should prevail. Is that clear? The fact that I did NOT attend USC doesn't mean that I have done less for this country than a buffoon like you. I will tell you that to your blipping face anytime. I am sick and tired of that childish possessive BS:
"You did NOT attend USC". Am I an inferior citizen because I did NOT? Get off that false superiority pedestal chump... You didn't say that when I bought an USC mini helmet or the USC Football history DVD, etc.?
Thank you

Ah, poor Mike Williams. I was apt. mates with him his freshman year. The guy was amazingly down to earth when he got to USC, and seemed like he had a good head on his shoulders. Over the course of that first year, it was like watching the devolution of a man. Terrifying.
