Answer Wednesday, Part 2

A question here about ``the competition,'' as Pete Carroll likes to say.

Q: We have heard a lot about the 3-4 coming in to play for this season. Do you think that this "D" will be played against only certain programs, or will it be a mixture of the 4-3 and 3-4 throughout the 2008?

A: I don't think the 3-4 will be a vital part of the offense, especially with the desire to get Clay Matthews on the field in the nickel package.

Q: Will Pete Carroll follow the competition rules. I thinks Mitch Mustain plays bettter then Mark Sanchez, and lots more receivers on the team are better then Patrick Turner.

A: We will see. There is competition and then there is competition. Some thought Mark Sanchez deserved a shot two years ago based on his play in practice but he did not get one. There are a lot of receivers so I don't think any one will get more reps than they deserve, at least at the outset. This week, a lot of the freshmen get more looks anyways to see where they stand. That's why Emmanuel Moody and Jamere Holland transferred, they were upset over the reps of the freshman at the outset of last year's camp.

Actually, I don't think the 3-4 will be ANY part of the OFFENSE. Do you even consider yourself a journalist? No one else does.

I looked up Mitch Mustain and his stats for the 8 games he started:

Passing 847 yards
Rushing -24 yards
Touchdowns: 10
Interceptions: 8
.
His multiple TD games were 3 TD's vs. Vandy and 2 vs. Louisiana Monroe.

Is that right?

You are right. There is a reason Mustain was benched at Arkansas after winning 8 straight games. His stats were horrible. His performance is like a pithcer with an ERA over 5, who pitches only 5 innings but is 10-2 because his team scores 12 runs per game. They were winning inspite of him, not because of him.

I think he is a talent, but people are lying to themselves if they think he outperformed Sanchez this Spring. Corp performed better than Mustain.

People sometimes want new just to say there is something new. Mustain didn't make his reads and see what he was suppose to see and all things being equal (first team and second team d, etc.) he was handily out performed for now. Obviously he wasn't spectacular at Arky, winning as people noted inspite not because of his play in an offense that he should have known better than anyone. But he has all the skills and he smart. Given some time he will be another great USC QB. Aaron Corp may have something to say about that though.

Mark Sanchez should start two years ago. But, now is a differnt time zone 2008. I watch Mustain take the scout team and take good care of the 1st USC defense.

At Arkansas, Mustain is 1st year college player. Both Sanchez and Mustain is the #1 qb in their class.

A. Corp should be the #1 qb in his class. I like him. He might be the best one between the three.

Please take time to watch the USC practices before making dump statements. Go Trojan.....

Well, maybe, did I mention maybe, this is why teams have coaches. One, they have experience, two, they see these kids every day, and three, their jobs are on the line.

So maybe, did I say maybe, we should trust their opinions and resulting decisions.

All along I thought he was just a high school kid from Arkansas.
