Linebacker Luthur Brown did not practice because of back issues. He's experienced back problems since his freshman year and underwent surgery.
``We're keeping him quiet,'' USC coach Pete Carroll said.
Brown's absence could be significant because the other reserve middle linebacker, Chris Galippo, is out until October following back surgery.
