Post-Game Thoughts?

Well, the score was lopsided and there were some notable performances, but this was not a particularly insightful test for Ohio State. Virginia did not have a passing game to make this game interesting.
Also, USC did not establish a running game and seemed to want to pass first. It will be interesting to see what Steve Sarkisian says about that.
Here's where you can post your thoughts on the game.

SW, did you not get your peanuts on the plane? Did housekeeping in your Motel 6 wake you up to early? What is with your attitude? Post Game Thought: beware that on road trips, Wolfeee gets grouchier more than normal. SW, and who did "THE Ohio State" play today? Uh, a real tough Youngstown State.... Oooo, shaking in the boots over that game. Neither one of these teams that the Trojans and "Uckyeys" played are top caliber. The game between the two will be won on the field. Is there room for improvement after today's game, yes! PC will be the first one to tell you that. Fight On!

1. Could not have asked for a better game from Sanchez. I especially like the way he moved around and could hit his men on the run. And he set up that long touchdown pass to Ron Johnson with a clever juke move to avoid the tackler. SC looks to be in good hands this year and next, and I hope the anti-Sanchez sentiment will now rest in peace;

2. Not too many penalties and not too many mistakes hanging on to the ball. And Troy stole the ball more than they gave it away, so Coach will be happy tonight;

3. I liked the way the boys scored touchdowns (I think there were six different players) and did not play to the crowd, but calmly waited for their teammates to arrive to have a team celebration. Trojan class, nothing like it.

4. Running game was o.k. and would not have been expected to be great in this first game with the offensive line still gelling. But the line protected Sanchez very well and the pass attack was hot so why not keep the foot to the throttel, which is what Troy did;

5. Everybody got to play, and I got a little choked up when Tyler scored after all he has been through with his broken leg. Got to be great for team morale, and everybody comes home on the long plane ride feeling like a hero.

Scott. What game were you watching. You're such a putz.

If the defense gives you the pass all day, why balance it out by running. The next team may not give you the passing lanes and we could be rushing all day.
Smeagol is such a football "genius"!!

Or in the words of Jerry Garcia, "Every silver lining's got a touch of gray."

Scott Wolf needs to check himself. This was a tremendous performance from our boys. Even though the opponent wasn't up to snuff, the players can only control what they do.

And how about Beanie Wells' foot??? You think that might be a major story line in the next two weeks.

Fight on!

Geez, Scott. Seriously, man, what on earth is your problem?

I agree, it wasn't a perfect game. There were definitely things to be concerned about. But at the end of the day, the score was 52-7. The defense looked pretty solid, the running game showed promise, and Sanchez didn't make any big mistakes. I was more concerned about the fact that McKnight essentially gave up two turnovers personally. I hope he suffers some ramifications for that, since he's historically been turnover prone.

Scott, what is so miserable about your life that you can't take any pleasure in this game? I'd pity you if you weren't so irritating.

Reading SW on the Trojans is like reading anyone in the media on the economy. To listen to the news, you'd think that America was in the worst shape it's been since the Depression (and has been for the past eight years). Revisiting some old SW posts, I'd say the same thing.

In fact, I was surprised when I'd heard an announcer say that no other college team had had six consecutive 11 win seasons. Or that the past eight losses over six years have all been within a touchdown. That's so far from the agony I suffered through for the 90's (I was overjoyed when we made it to the Rose against NWestern), that it's hard to even think we're talking about the same team.

USC is far from perfect, but certainly we can appreciate that this year's team looks poised to make another run to at least a Pac-10 championship and possibly to the national title.

Scott, duh. USC ran 41 times for 218 yards and passed 37 times: balanced and solid not flashy running game

I'm just glad we have a Quarterback who can complete a pass longer than 10 yards!

Ah, I guess Youngstown State really had a rushing game and a passing game for OSU's big test today eh?...And Ohio University will really test OSU next week. .. playing all those BCS schools will test them...

41 runs and 37 passes.. that is NOT acceptable.. where is the balance.. they ran the ball 4 more times than passing...

That will NOT be tolerated... Sanchez should have run the ball instead of passing 49 yds to Rojo for a TD just to try to balance out the runs vs passes..

Thanks. The "anti-Sánchez sentiment" will never die unfortunately. It will definitely diminish, though! I love that long TD pass to RoJo! Mark can zip the ball like the best of them!

My Week 1 USC report card:

-Sanchez: Great game - A-minus

-Defense: Great game - A-minus

-Offense: Great balance - A-minus

-Emmanuel Moody: Not so great (3 carries, 1 yard for Florida) - D-plus

-Wolfie: Just more lousy blog entries (D-minus)

Maybe the Daily News can employ PC to recruit a better beat writer?

What about the tipped passes is it me or are those the same plays called last year and the year before with the same results

That is a great point about the tipped passes. You can bet that PC will address that during the next practice(s).

This was a big time whoopin of an ACC opponent. Once again, USC has proven that it can go on the road and handle business. I thought Sanchez managed the game well. He showed great enthusiasm and leadership. Other than one ill-advised pass to Hazelton early in the game (when two defenders separately deflected the ball), I thought his decision-making was very good.

The defense played lights out. The one TD drive was due to three major penalties.

USC will beat the Buckeyes.

Fight On!

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
