Quick Start
It was a good first practice for wide receiver Jordan Cameron. Pete Carroll labeled two of his catches as ``spectacular.''

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

That's great, but lets play receivers who can make the easy catch because they actually get open.
I am sick of these 6"5" receivers who make great catches in practice but can't get open during games because of their lack of speed.
Make Ausberry and Camreon TE's.
Good point.
I don't recall receivers having to make great catches with Leinart. One, they were fast and got open, and two, Leinart threw a catchable ball, even reducing it to 2/3 speed when the receiver was wide open.
Man, it feels good to be talking a little football finally
I guess it's better than having a 6'5" receiver who can't make a catch in practice.
Mike Williams never really had the speed to get open on long routes either but he was physical enough to make the short catch take the initial hit, and put a move on his defender. He was unstopabble because USC would run a 1 yard screen play and BMW would turn it into 6-7 yards everytime. Last year the big guys were slow, not physical, had no hands, exhibited bad footwork and couldn't break the first tackle. Bad combo all round.
It's not necessarily about them getting open - they can and often do on screens and quick slants. It's more about them making the catches when they do. If I see Ausberry drop one more slant I'm gonna lose it. He has the build to be a great one - now to see if he can learn some of the other tricks.
I remember Keyshawn, who wasn't a speed demon used to make his QB's stats look good with the ridiculous number of yards he'd get after the catch.
And of course BMW's one handed grab was awesome. Y'know, if they need someone to coach Ausberry, Mike's got free...
what too soon?
Sorry, I just wanted to beat the Bruin trolls to the punch.
Remember that the receivers are running against arguably the best secondary in college football this season. Don't expect wide open looks in practice this year. Come game time, can't wait to see Damien and Vidal show their stuff on the field this year.
I have seen Jordan Cameron catch a ball. If I'm Sanchez, I'm looking for Cameron in the red zone! This kid has unbelievable hands and will definately be an asset to the team! If you look at their weak points last year, it was at the receiving spot. I think it's great that Coach Carol gives these kids a shot and Jordan Cameron is stepping up. As I will always say, basketball players make the best football players. I'm definately excited for Cameron!
