Simmons Case
USC recruit Maurice Simmons testified in his own trial in Compton Superior Court on Friday, where he is charged with second-degree robbery, assault with a firearm and permitting a loaded firearm in his vehicle.
The district attorney's office refused a plea bargain agreement, where Simmons would plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of allowing someone with a gun in his car, according to Simmons' attorney, Michael Carney.
Under that agreement, Simmons would not serve jail time.
``They're trying to allege that Maurice is a gang member,'' Carney said. ``Their witnesses were (unimpressive). I'll have witnesses next week that will testify on Maurice's character.''
The alleged victim of the robbery testified, but wore prisoner clothing because a subpoena was issued to force him to testify and he had an outstanding warrant on another matter.
Simmons was arrested on March 6 along with Lamont Hall, who is charged with second-degree robbery, assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm. Hall is attempting to plea bargain and serve jail time but the judge has not yet decided if he will allow it.

Lawyer John, I am guessing that you really are a lawyer or at least have something to do with the field of Law. I would be interest in your take, even though minimal information is available to us. Presenting a witness to Maurice's character (at least to me) does not indicate that this will sway either the judge or jury's thinking (will it?). Does anyone know who is handling the case against Maurice? Is it a member of the L.A. County DA office or another party (being Louisville, I'm limited on the information that I able to get)? Fight On!
BTW who is representing Simmons?
Thnx
Will Caesar testify in Maurice's behalf?
