Preseason polls are garbage anyway.
I heard a SJ Mercury voter talking about his criteria for voting on a Bay Area radio station.
He has Notre Dame 25th. Not because he thinks they're the 25th best team in the country, but because they have a favorable schedule and he thinks that a 7-5 record will be enough to get them into a bowl game and be ranked. To me, this is totally and completely ridiculous. The polls should not start until the 4th or 5th week of the season and should be 100% based on merit.
Fight on!
I agree.
But it is like the oscars, it is fun to guess the winners. And in college football, the pre-season rankings scare up interest.
Moreover, the early rankings do matter in the sense that teams that are not given this early respect will be hard-pressed to make it to the top tier even if they have a once-in-a-lifetime season.
Georgia is loaded, but can they really repeat last season's overachievement? I hate over-hyped Florida, but the Def should be much improved and Tebow will be practically unstoppable with another year of maturity. OSU is loaded, and we will be very inexperienced on the O-line. I want to believe, but am just not confident that we win that game. Sanchez will play well, but I fear that we lose the line of scrimmage. So, a Florida-OSU final? No, we get really hot in the 2nd half, other teams get upset, and it is a USC-Georgia BCS! ASU in the Rose Bowl, sickening, but could make it by default.
What's interesting about this idea is that SC plays Ohio St and ASU plays Georgia this year.
Mark Richt GA coach suspended at least four of his players for alcohol related issues. One of them charged with urinating in public. Jim Rome was very emphatic and critical of those players behavior on his show last Monday.
