If the Angels are now part of LA (LA Angels of Anaheim) would that make CS Fullerton an underling in the LA football monopoly?

This will never happen, it will take a considerable amount of money invested into the school and athletic program-plus its a state school, meaning low budget/no budget and nothing left over...and the knowledge that future revenues from football games and related activities will not be sufficient enough to off-set the tremendous cost of starting the program. Maybe if some rich alumnus (Cedric Ceballos...does he still have money?) gave a few million to the school that could work.....Theres also Kevin Costner, he could make another bad movie and donate some cash for it!

Actually, we are putting together a very feasible plan to restart a program in much the same way Cal Poly SLO is building theirs. Bowl division play is not in the foreseeable future, but football might be back at CSUF within a few short years.

After my Pac 10 expansion question got blanked under Answerfest this sure cheered me up.

With respects to DFWTrojan, this would be great news indeed. CS Fullerton does have a rich football heritage including Damon (Marcus' Brother) Allen as QB of an undefeated season and I believe a guy named Mike Pringle is one of the top RB yardage gainers in CFL history. I think the NYG's had a Pro Bowl DB from CSUF in the 80's too.

My only concern is that resources should not be diverted from basketball as Titan Hoops made March Madness last year for the first time in like 20 plus years. I think there is more a chance of CSUF becoming the Orange County version of Gonzaga than football ever making a huge impact.

If it's done the right way, count me in. I know UCI was flirting with football a few years back too but had to scrap it due to the state's budget woes.
I'm not sure if Chapman still has a program or not.
At some point in the next 10-15 years, I think there is room for one WAC or Mountain West level program in the OC-LB-IE area between LA and SD. Why not at Fullerton?

If I am correct, hasn't fullerton been a baseball powerhouse in the past recent years. I think they won a championship in 2004 and usually make the ncaa playoffs every year.

I wonder if adding a football team would diminish the importance of that program? Or maybe they would allow multi-sport athletes like USC and Stanford which might be a recruiting advantage.

Trojan&Tonic, you are right about that DB for the NY Giants. That was one Mark Collins who used to beat my butt bad in summer passing league. Yes, Chapman U does still have their football program. It would be interesting to see that Titans back on the gridiron again. My only question is, what facility would be used for the stadium (would it be Titan Stadium). Strange that we are talking about CSUF on the Trojans site, way to get thing stirred up again SW. Fight On!

Yep, thats the guy KPTrojan.

Fullerton is probably one of the few left coast schools where baseball is actually a revenue sport.
Obviously, the Titan's diamond dominance should not be undermined in any way for football. Although NCAA baseball is not big time like the Big 2, it does have enough of a niche to put CSUF on the collegiate sports map. Baseball is fine; basketball slipping is a concern.

There have been huge changes since CSUF Football was suspended. The campus now has the 2nd most # of undergrad students in CA next to UCLA. It also now has a huge alumni base in their 40-50's that would actually buy football tickets. There is no local NFL team between San Diego and the Bay Area and most USC games are sold out.

CSUF has four NC in baseball. Garrido got the first ones, Horton the last. Serrano is the coach now and the program is probably the best and most consistent in southern California.

They built a football stadium but the sport was discontinued before it was completed. The last time I was in it, there were only seats on one side and the concrete tiers on the other. It's used for soccer.
