Linebacker U.?
In case you missed it earlier, I spoke to a an NFL scout who saw the USC-Oregon State game.
USC's defensive line got plenty of blame for failing to stop Oregon State tailback Jacquizz Rodgers, but an NFL scout who watched the game said the Trojans' linebackers were equally to blame.
``The way USC's defense is set up, the linebackers are supposed to fill the gaps and make those tackles,'' said the scout, who did not wish to be identified. ``It's too easy to say the defensive line wasn't doing its job. The linebackers are supposed to be All-Americans, and they didn't have a great night either.''

Next Saturdays game against Oregon will set the tone for the rest of the season, if both Oregon teams defeat SC then things don't look good.
Gee, who coaches the linebackers ?? Oh, that's right, it's Mr. Taped Fingers Rah Rah Norton, no wonder Rey M has never learned to stop over pursuing a play since he's been at SC.
Averill and Christian combined for 3 tackles??? Rey grossly over-pursues. Poor discipline from the LBs, really just Rey. I would love to pick apart the game film because I think Cush and Kaluka played excellent. Rey is only looking to make a Sportscenter highlight.
Poor technique has often been overlooked as the "hits" outweigh the "misses."
I believe a similar theory could be applied to the was Reggie didn't hold the ball safely. His big plays overshadowed the occasional fumble. Maybe that's why nobody has addressed a similar problem with Joe McKnight... yet.
The linebackers don't improve because Norton sucks.
I'd rather have Ken Sr. coach them.
