Maualuga Update

| | Comments (5) |

Rey Maualuga stopped by the football offices to visit Pete Carroll tonight wearing a big brace on his sprained knee. He sprained the medial-collateral ligament. There is no swelling and he can squat without problems. He will undergo an MRI today.
``We don't know yet (if he will play this week),'' Carroll said.

I do not mean to kick a man while he is down, but Rey blew it big time in this game. He may have had 12 tackles, but they all came 15 yards downfield after he took himself out of the play. He has struggled with that his entire career. On another note, I wish we had 11 Kevin Ellison's on defense. He is the best defender on our team by far and it is not just the big hits he makes, he is always trying to keep guys motivated and is always in the right position.

It was a stupid decision to take the risk and go back for his senior year. I know he wanted to get his degree for his dad, that's an honorable thing to do. But he could have gone to the NFL, get at the least a $2,000,000 signing bonus and still get his degree.

You can ALWAYS go back to school. If you're damaged goods, that money WON'T be there.

If this injury is serious enough to damage his pro career, he's assed out.

come on...lets stop pointing fingers usc will be back...1st I broke the game down..yes every bit-by-bit ...usc did not come too play...the "best D" in the nation...well.. it did not look that way thurs..D-line was to aggressive everyone wanted to make the tackle...not one guy on that line tried to fill the gaps or force the double team, they were only double when Oregon wanted to double them to force the play...way too aggressive..It's like trying to catch a mouse, fill the gaps and wait for the mouse to show it's head then smack...the cowboys were like that when they had Emmit Smith...they won super bowls like that until they figured out how to defend a runner like that...besides not showing up to play. As for Rey well he had a off night #66 and #73 kept him pretty busy (not counting the holding and the chop-blocks out of the box)as for "taking his self out of the play" be real...they were all out of position...plus some one had to make the tackle duh...Ellison would have laid the smack-down when that mouse showed its head thurs.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
