Sample Flavor

USC president Steven Sample is receiving a founders medal from the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.), which bills itself as the world's largest technical professional society.
In its press release honoring Sample, it states, ``Sample was a senior scientist at Melpar Inc., where his research resulted in patents for digital controls, which have been licensed by consumer appliance manufacturers for use in microwave ovens and other consumer appliances throughout the world.''
Perhaps he can use some of his expertise to get the soft-serve ice cream machine to work at the Galen Center this season.
