1. Leinart
2. Leinart
3. Leinart

7-10. Others.
The Donkey recognizes that those who saw Frank Gifford play don not visit Wolf's blog.
Palmer
McDonald
Haden
Jones
Evans
Rae
Peete
Bethard
Fertig
Leinart
How about a list of favorite quarterbacks, Donkey? Not the best, just your favorite all time. (List must include Fox and Mazur to be legit.)
1. Leinart
2. Peete (for what he did at SC, not in the NFL)
3. Palmer (ditto what I said about Rodney)
4. Haden
5. McDonald
6. Evans
7. JD Booty
8. Marinovich
9. Sanchez (he'll climb this list by season's end)
10. Salsbury
201,052. Rob Johnson
If you look at what each did at SC, there's no way in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks that Matt Leinart wouldn't be #1 on this list. No quarterback in the history of college football accomplished what he did here (Heisman Trophy Winner + 3rd + 6th place finishes, 3 Straight National Championship games. 37-2 as a starter, Walter Camp Award, Unitas Award, etc, etc, etc). Like him or not, dude was the ultimate winner for us.
1 Leinart
2 Palmer
3 Haden
4 Peete
5 Beathard
6 McDonald
7 Fertig
8 Evans
9 Johnson
10 Marinovich
I thought Gifford was a running back?
And FSC, how can you have Leinart as 10? He's arguably one of the greatest college QBs ever.
Stanley "The Trojan Jimmy Clausen" Havili
1. Mike Rae - MVP of the "Greatest Team in Football History", never lost to Notre Dame, Super Bowl 1977, and a great golfer.
2. Carson Palmer - Smart, tough as nails.
3. Matt Leinart - Biggest QB ego in USC football history.
4. Rodney Peete - Beat fucla with the measles.
5. Craig Fertig - A winner and great guy.
6. Paul McDonald - First class all the way.
7. Pat Haden - Mike Rae's caddy.
8. Sean Salisbury - See Carson Palmer.
9. Pete Beathard - Could easily be ranked higher.
10. Mark Sanchez - Will change by 2009
The DonKey wrote his post before TrojanAZ could point out that Gifford played mostly DB and tailback, and just a little QB. I like to refer to the DonKey in the pluperfect progressive tense.
The Donkey has been enlightened and expresses its gratitude.
The Donkeys top 8 list includes:
8. Pete Beathard
7. Pat Haden
6. Vince Evans
5. Paul McDonald
4. Todd Marinovich
3. Rodney Peete
2. Carson Palmer
1. Matt Leinart
The Donkey refuses to complete add to the list because it is...stubborn.
We're just taking college career right?
-Leinart
-Peete
-Palmer
-Marinovich
-Rob Johnson
From a different age
-Hayden
-Paul McDonald
For his pass TD ratio
-Michael McDonald

2. Leinart
3. McDonald
4. Haden
5. Peete
6. Rae
7. Fertig
8. Marinovich
9. Johnson
10. Evans
**If Mark delivers as most of us expect he'll definitely crack the top of bottom five. Stay tuned! Fighton you have insulted McDonald by having him at the bottom of your list. Did you forget that he was the NC team QB(1978-1979)? The last NC before Leinart's first, OK? There isn't any reason to justify that, period.
GoliathTrojan and George where are you guys? Next the top FIVE RB's!
Couldn't have said it BETTER myself, THANKS SCFTBL1:

Mike Rae might not have been the best pure QB, obviously, but he was one thing - A WINNER.
Here's Scott's list (before fall camp started):
1. Mustain
2. Mustain
3. Mustain
4. Mustain
5. Mustain
6. Mustain
7. Mustain
8. Mustain
9. Mustain
10. Palmer
Come-on Mike give us [YOUR] list.
This is impossible when you consider how many great QB's we've had...as compared to the simple task of naming UW's best...ain't that many...
I've segmented the lists
1970-2008
Matt Leinert (count the records)
Carson Palmer (got to put the Heismans first)
Pat Haden (three straight Rose Bowls/2 NC's)
Mike Rae
John David Booty
Rodney Peete
Vince Evans
Paul McDonald (better qb than announcer)
Sean Salisbury (except for the shutout at UW)
Brad Otton (just get the ball to Keyshawn!)
1950-1970
Craig Fertig
Pete Beatherd
Bill Nelson
Jimmy Jones
Willie Wood
Troy Winslow
Toby Page (must have been fun handing off to OJ)
George Bozanic (he made Gifford)
Mike Holmgren (honorable mention)
Before 1950 and just because I love these guys' names:
(all qb's)
Morley Drury
Doyle Nave
Gaius "Gus" Shaver
Nick Pappas
Irving "Cotton" Warburton
Love the Bozanic reference. best athlete to ever come out of wyoming.
According to the 2008 USC Media Guide. Sorry, I wish it was formatted better.

OldYelllKing:
Please post more often, we love to hear your pespective on SC football history.
That said, how can there be any argument who is the greatest SC quarterback of all time. Hint: he won 2 national championships in a row, decided to come back for his senior year, sacrificing pehaps $50 million in the process, and brougt SC to the brink of an unprecedented 3 straight national championships, only to be upended by another alltime great (Young).
After Leinart, the national championship quarterbacks are Beathard/Nelson, Soggee, Rae/Hayden, and McDonald, if memory serves.
Hayden? Soggee? Okay Lawyer Jahn. ;-)
I know Cole Leinart won't be the starter until 2023 but I hear he can throw 50 yards while sitting in his high chair. Pencil him in at #3.
GIFFORD WAS A TAILBACK
HARD TO COMPARE ERAS
THE TWO BEST EVER
MORLEY DRURY AND MATT LEINART
THEN
WARBURTON AND PALMER
I'D GO ON, BUT IS ANYONE READING THIS????
NEXT-----IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER WOULD BE McDONALD, HADEN AND PEETE
GEORGE TIREBITER,
I LISTEN TO EVERY WORD YOU SAY. I WISH I HAD YOUR MEMORY.
FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TIREBITER, HE IS THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO'S OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE SEEN ALL THESE ATHLETES LIVE.
SERIOUSLY
SO IF HE IS SAYING MORELY DRURY AND COTTON WARBURTON ARE TOP FOUR, THEY ARE TOP FOUR.
Sam & George, I may not be as old as both of you (but old enough to know about Jimmy Jones), but my hat goes off to both of you! And George, totally agree with you about Morely & Cotton. Fight On!
HEY-----------THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH SAM AND KP
SAM---METHINKS YOU KNOW YOUR HOOPS HISTORY VERY WELL
KP-----JIMMY JONES/MIKE RAE----A GREAT COMBO
ANOTHER GREAT COMBO---PETE BEATHARD/BILL NELSON
FIGHT ON!
1. Leinart - How could you choose anyone else?
2. Palmer - Not great until senior season.
3. Pat Haden - Consistent
4. Paul McDonald - Great passer
5. Rodney Peete - but never won a bowl game
6. Mike Rae - probably too high, but 1972!
7. Rob Johnson - Couldn't avoid a sack.
8. Todd Marinovich - Played well as USC
9. John David Booty - Should have won a NC but didn't
10. Sean Salisberry - lost job as a senior to Peete
Any list without Mike Rae on it, is invalid. 1972 arguably the best college football team of all time.
