Answer Monday! Round 7
Someone asked about Josh Tatum. He is interested in returning to USC but as of now, it is not clear if USC would return that interest.
Q: Just as a follow-up question to the one USCMIKE asked above, when I first read this buried deep in the back of the formerly big LA paper, I took it as very good news for Trojan fans. Watson, the atty. for Lake, indicated he was open to a confidentiality settlement,
which would mean no depositions for Bush nor his family, and no trial, thus giving the NCAA no more ammunition from these sources which it obviously appears it has been waiting for.
The NCAA has Lakes' book, some receipts, and not much else that I know of. Assuming a confidentiality agreement, would you think that the chances of severe penalties being imposed on the Trojans would be greatly reduced? As always, thanx for the forums.
A: It reduces the odds of proving violations but do not underestimate the NCAA wanting to demonstrate it did something on this case, whether or not Bush's testifies.
Q: Answer Tuesday, round 2, of this week, there was a question asked about what would happen if Virginia tried to back out of its' date with the Trojans in 2010. I guess the answer is nothing would happen, cuz the question appeared, and Tirebiter commented, but the answer never appeared, thus nothing. Can schools back out of future games unilaterally whenever they want to, and maybe all they would ever lose is a little face? I mean non-conference games of course.
A: There really isn't much that can be done. Colorado State backed out of its agreement to play USC last year and nothing happened. A school might give money to back out, but if a team really wants out, there's not much to stop them.

It is very possible the confidentiality may not to be upheld vs NCAA if it went to court and proved relevancy.
Of course, no depositions limits evidence.
But this question is disgusting. It wants injustice, the evidence to be hid, and for someone to get away with something
Scott:
Is the popularity of the Dohn lead UCLA spoerts blog putting heat on you. Normally you are put out to answer 7 questions in a day nevermind 7 rounds of answers.
Most schools include a "buyout" clause in the contract that pays one party when the other backs out of the agreement. I'm not sure if USC places these buyout clauses in their contracts, but I know Fresno State does because they have teams back out all the time. In fact, Kansas State just paid FSU a good chunk of money (quarter mil) for backing out of this year's scheduled tilt in Manhattan, Kansas.
Fortunately for SC, there's always someone standing in line to be demolished by the Trojans.
Will Mark Sanchez be replaced next time?
Scott, why does SC not try and schedule good football teams in it's non conference games instead of cup cake teams? Why not a Penn State, Texas Tech, Florida State,
Alabama?
I'm with T4,
Why can't SC try and schedule games with an Auburn, Arkansas or Ohio State?
Sam G.:
USC plays OSU next year in Ohio. They reached that agreement two years ago.
Funny, Sam Gilbert. Well done.
Fight On!
Yeah T4! USC should play Auburn, Arkansas or OSU. Or why doesn't USC come out east for Va Tech, Virginia, etc. I mean Virginia is tied at the top of the ACC with Florida State so it is no way USC could beat THEM. No one knows how USC would even do in bowls against Oklahoma, Michigan, Illinois...
Man that T4 knows his football. But he's right, it has been 8 years since SC came across country to play the kickoff classics against Penn State (28-7 USC in '01-'02 season) where the East Coast team gets to play basically a home game and not return it. And Texas Tech is 0-3 vs. SC so it has been a long time since TT has come back for a butt whipping. T4 should replace Mike Garrett because he is a scheduling genius! T4!
What's wrong with T4 and Sam Gilbert, we played a home and away with Auburn and Arkansas, as El Cap said we played ohio st. this year and will play them next year.
Do a little research and check out past schedules before you ask stupid questions.
I believe it was in 2003 that USC opened against VT at RFK stadium. There was a controversial and crucial play during that game. I think it was a pass interference not called against USC.
LOL
Hey Gnossos:
Sam Gilbert was completely tongue-in-cheek when he made those comments in reply to T4's statement that we don't schedule "good football teams" out of conference. Sam was obviously aware that we scheduled the teams he mentioned. I think your critique was more focused on T4's initial comment.
In any event,USC can only schedule two non-conference games per year, as N.D. will always be on the schedule. The schedules are often made 3-5 years in advance. If USC scheduled Alabama and Penn St. for 3-5 years down the road, there is no guarantee that those two teams (or any other current "good" programs you mention) will be in the same position then. Heck, odds are that Saban (always seeking his next job) and Paterno (retired?) will not be at their respective positions then. [Indeed, those teams were mediocre 3-5 years ago.]
Having said that, we should avoid Idaho, Syracuse, and other doormats of the college football world, if possible. Then again, maybe Syracuse will find another coach and rise to top of the Big East.
USC mostly benefits by having a strong Pac-10 conference. The conference is down this year, and it will hurt USC in the BCS as a result.
Did you hear that? That was the sound of intelligent banter (and sarcasm) going over the heads of many of these "readers" (used loosely).
SC annually has one of the toughest non-conference schedules of any team in the country year-in and year-out, as USCMike has already stated.
Going on the road to play Auburn, Kansas St (when they were good), Nebraska (when they were not), Notre Dame, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, tOSU, Virginia, et al over the past several years more than solidifies the Trojans' schedule. I'm also with Mike about removing games like Hawaii, Colorado St., Idaho, the Cuse, and other cupcakes because it does not help SC. It's sometimes hard to tell who is going to be good several years out, but it not all that hard to tell who WON'T be good (Idaho).
Keep the scheduling up and the wins coming. BTW, anyone know off-hand what our current regular season non-conference winning streak is at? It must be tops in the country. By my count, the last loss we had was to Kansas St. in 2002.
Fight On!
Notre Dame is the most storied and honored football school in the country. (true but sick)
It is not our fault CW has them in total suckiness.
Charlie and Jimmy could get them up and going and our strength of schedule would sky rocket.
I'm at a loss for words...
PAUL MORON sounds like a self-righteous bruin-lover.
