Answer Tuesday, Part V

Q: How do you do? Can you elaborate on the Vidal Hazelton redshirting philosophy? You made it sound like "I'm sick...oh I'll redshirt!"

A: He said he has a high-ankle sprain and would like to redshirt. An ankle sprain is not usually the cause for a red-shirt year unless it does not recover over a prolonged period of time. There have been cases when players redshirted after their ankle never fully recovered. We're currently four games into the season, so it might be that he needs to sit out if it never recovers. It is still early. But he underwent an MRI today, so maybe we'll learn his ankle is more damaged than USC believes.

Q: When the Oregon cheerleaders entered the LA Coliseum, did you get the sense that, as Americans, we had already won?

A: Yes. Was there a game afterward? I don't remember.

Q: What is the greatest moment in the history of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum:

A) The Olympic Games in 1932
B) The Olympic Games in 1984
C) Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band playing a five night stand in 1985
D) The LA Raiders returning to Oakland in 1995
E) The Oregon cheerleaders performing in 2008

A:) I attended several of those events ('84 Olympics, Springsteen, Raiders' last game) and would say ``E"' is far and away the most significant event and memorable. But that's just me.

Pete said at his luncheon today that the MRI on Hazelton was fine. Guess Wolf was too busy to attend. Probably busy looking on the internet for pictures of cheerleaders.

I'd have to add the two night U2 Joshua Tree tour in 1989 (???) as an LA Coliseum highlight.

I was at the 1984 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Coliseum. That was pretty special.

I've seen some great Song Girl squads too, and that's also very special, indeed.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
