In Control
Oregon State is the only Pac-10 team that controls its destiny. But Coach Mike Riley continues to downplay it.
"I guess it's a real thing, but I never dwell on that. It leads to those long-term thing,'' Riley said. ``If you do this and this and this, then you can do this, and this and this. If you lose a game, it pulls the rug out from under you and you have to start all over.''

Doesn't Cal control its own destiny as well at this point?
Damn it, I'm tired of having to keep bring this up and correct people. I've had to correct Ted Miller on this, I've had to correct Bruce Feldman on this, and now I (and BA) have to correct Scott Wolf on this.
CAL ABSOLUTELY CONTROLS THEIR OWN DESTINY.
If Cal wins out, they will be the Pac-10 Champion. It's a simple as that. It only takes a brief glance at the standings and schedule to figure that one out.
Here's a hint: try less typing and more thinking.
There's no excuse not to know something so basic and fundamental to the Pac-10.
FIGHT ON!
Remember sureshot, Scott also said that LSU has a "murderous schedule" without actually checking their schedule, which clearly notes that they haven't beaten ANYONE.
Many think Scott would be better served as a gossip columnist, however, with his lack of fact checking, he'd be sued in a heartbeat.
Oregon State has played Stanford (L), USC, and the Washington schools. They have the meat of the conference left.
Not only does Cal control its own destiny, it is the ONLY team that controls its own destiny to win the conference outright. Oregon State can only control its destiny to become conference co-champs, with the tiebreaker in their favor if they tie USC at 8-1. If Cal wins out, they finish 8-1 and no one else finishes any better than 7-2.
