That impressive victory over powerhouse Kentucky certainly showed that Alabama, and not Oklahoma, is the number one team in the land.
Nevermind the AP and the BCS, the Oregon State loss was devestating to USC's Pac-10 chances. If Oregon State and USC win out in conference play, the title goes to the Beavers based on the head-to-head tiebreaker. What Pac-10 team is going to beat Oregon State? Wazzu? UW? Stanford? UCLA?
Thankfully, the BCS doesn't require a team to win its conference to play for the championship. Wouldn't that be bizzare if USC played for and won the BCS and AP titles, but didn't win the Pac-10?
stanford already beat oregon st...
Who the heck has Georgia beaten? They are in the SEC, but they barely got by a weak South Carolina team and an Alabama team with a somewhat up and down offense took them to the shed.
Also, did you notice what happened to the might bulldogs of UGA after they actually traveled across country? They lost, that's what.Do you think they travel that far again? MJD
Wow. Can you stop overrating the SEC teams? Florida's loss to Ole Miss should be just as bad as USC's loss to Oregon State (which didn't look as bad after OSU's game against Utah). But USC's win over Ohio State is a whole heck of a lot better than any win Florida currently has.
How is Auburn still #15 after yet another woeful offensive performance? Auburn's wins (um, change that to loss avoidances) over Mississippi State (3-2) and Tennessee (14-12, nobody doing jack in the second half) were due to their opponent's offensive ineptitude, not Auburn's defense.
I have to agree with beachhousemike about the seemingly inexplicable ranking of Alabama over Oklahoma. I guess I can see it in terms of Alabama's win over a Georgia team who wasn't really beaten a good team yet (since Oklahoma has played an even worse schedule). It's not like that Clemson win of Alabama's looks all that good now (except when that Preseason #9 ranking of Clemson is still listed beside that result).
Cant say I disagree much. Maybe BYU.
Last night USC looked liked crap until Belotti gave them a gift, which killed the Oregon spirit, and the game was over. But for the first 25 mins of the game, it was the same USC that showed versus OSU.
Runs up the gut, DBs playing 10 yards off receivers because Pete has no faith they wont get beat deep, McKnights vasaline covered hands, no consistant pressure on the QB and the total lack of mental discipline resulting in truly pathetic and inexcusible PENALTIES are still a major problem.
This team still has at least one more loss in them.
jdusc, Oregon State still has to play Arizona State, Cal, and Oregon. They'll almost certainly lose to 1 or 2 of those. They also play Arizona, at Washington, at UCLA, etc. OSU won't win the Pac-10 if USC wins out.
I stand corrected. Thankfully, OSU lost to Stanford.
But the fact is, USC doesn't control it's own fate for the Pac-10. OSU beat USC . . . they could very well beat any Pac-10 team left on their schedule.
No love for Penn State! At least we'll be favored against them in the Rose Bowl.
Kansas ranked over Penn State? I can't stop laughing.
Put down the lotion and cheerleader pictures and step out of the bathroom and watch a football game Mr. Wolf. You're a joke.
Auburn at 15? Auburn at 15?
Who have they beaten?
Louisiana-Monroe
Southern Miss
Miss. St. (score 3-2, laughable)
and Tennessee (who lost to UCLA.)
They have lost to every quality team (Vandy-TBD) they have played.
