Tuitama In The Pocket

| | Comments (4) |

Willie Tuitama perfectly fits the profile of a quarterback who gives traditionally give USC problems with his mobility, except for one thing: Arizona does not let him run.
Tuitama's rushed 21 times in seven games but those are mainly sacks or avoiding sacks. Even Pete Carroll alluded to it this week.
``He can throw on the move but he doesn't do much of that,'' Carroll said.

Willie's size and speed remind me a lot of Mark Sanchez. I know they can both run, and it serves them well when needed, but I would have to disagree with that being the type of quarterback who gives the Trojans problems. I think it's the extraordinarily quick quarterbacks like El Roberson, Vince Young, and Dennis Dixon that give us the most trouble. Those guys could allude the rush and make serious yards downfield. While Willie Tuitama may be able to break free for a few first down conversions, I'm pretty confident in Brian, Rey, and Kaluka's ability to chase him down and contain him for the most part. The problem may come when/if Pete's bend but don't break defense allows the Zona offense to be on the field for long stretches (a la Oregon State in the first half = no offensive rhythm for SC)

FIGHT ON!

Good point. As long as the defense continue to pound the gaps hard, we should do just fine.

To add on to what sureshot said, Dennis Dixon gave a lot of teams trouble and Vince Young gave everybody trouble.

True. I don't know if I've ever seen a crappy player give SC trouble, but even the good ones get stuffed by our defense most of the time. Looks like "Quiz" is going to be a pretty good one for years to come too.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
