Answer Caesar, Part I

| | Comments (2) |

We're going to try to answer two questions this week.

Q: Coach, what happened to the short screen to the running back up the middle that you used to run with Reggie all the time? That play always seemed to work when other teams were getting too aggressive defensively. It seems as if that play has fallen out of the playbook. Is this a personnel issue or just something that's lost favor with the existing offensive staff?

A: ``We still run it. It might not seem like but we do it. It's been part of our offense forever.''

That question jogged my memory. I recall that play working to perfection with Bush against Virgina Tech and basically winning the game. The short screen, Reggie found a hole and blasted through it to the end zone and destroyed Tech.

But Reggie was Reggie, so we might not see the likes of that again.

Wow! I really do appreciate Coach Carroll and all he has done for this program, but that's the best he could come up with? Reggie was something else, but there's no reason McKnight couldn't run this play as well.

One of the things that is missing with the current regime is the long-term planning. Often I would question Chow's play calls, but then a quarter later it would make sense when the earlier call set up a big play. You don't see that as much these days.
