Did anyone notice tomorrow's basketball game against New Mexico State tips off at 6 p.m.? That's a great time for a game if you have to work. And you can't blame TV for this one.
USC wants to take a red-eye flight to Puerto Rico after the game so the starting time was moved up. Even worse, the flight goes to Puerto Rico via New York. Who does that?
Q: What do you think about a possible split National Champion with USC winning the AP this year?
- Oregon State wins out and plays in the Rose Bowl.
- Florida beats Alabama and plays in the BCS title game.
- Oklahoma beats Texas Tech and then either a one loss Texas or OK plays Florida in the BCS title game.
- The BCS title game score is very close.
- USC plays either Texas or Oklahoma in say the Fiesta Bowl and blows them out.
- USC wins the AP National Title.
The longshot is probably Oregon State winning out.
A: USC might get a few votes in this scenario but I think the winner of the BCS game would be considered a very legitimate national champ, especially with all the attention the Big 12 and SEC teams are getting this season. USC would still be playing a lower-ranked Big 12 team than whoever makes the BCS title game. I think USC need to make the BCS title game for a shot at the championship.
Q: Linebacker Luthur Brown has not played in a game this season yet he appears in online practice photos. Please clarify his being cleared by team doctors to practice but not cleared to play in games.
A: This is one of the mysteries of the season. He practices but does not get to play in games. One explanation is that his contact is limited during practice but the way USC practices, it sure looks like he's getting full-contact opportunties. I've stopped asking because I always get a short answer about his status.
Q: I'm not saying it's justified, but do you think Pete would ever replace Steve as OC, even if Steve doesn't leave for a head coaching job?
A: No. They have a very close relationship and it's clear who is in charge between the two, so there would be the tension that existed between Carroll and Norm Chow.
Floyd needs to get the great advance man that the football team has to arrange for travel. I've read several profiles of that dude over on the USCRipsIt site.He knows logistics better than Patton or MacArthur did.
It would be a legit AP Championship if USC torches Texas and Oklahoma barely beats Florida. I don't get how Oklahoma would go to the BCS after being beat by Texas?
Cannot hardly fly direct anymore, and I doubt if there is a direct flight from LAX to Puerto Rico.
So our boys will finish their game at about 8:30, catch a flight at about 11:00, fly approximately 5-hours to New York, arriving at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, wait around the airport perhaps to 9:00 a.m., catch the flight to Puerto Rico, arriving at about 12:00 or 1:00 p.m.
Then what?-- Go to bed? Probably not even though they will be dead. Then they have a game the next day. Ever have jet lag? Ever have jet lag and then have to play 3 basketball games in 3-days?
Who goes to Puerto Rico from LAX via New York, you ask Scott?-- Well, any person who wants to go to Puerto Rico from LAX. There are few direct flights these days.
My concern is that these kids will be boarding an LAX flight at about 11:00 p.m. and will arrive in Puerto Rico (after their layover in New York at about 8:00 a.m. New York time) at approximately 1:00 p.m. These kids will be dead from lack of sleep. And then they have to play 3 games in 3 days.
Of course, I bet they are excited about going to Puerto Rico. I know I would be. Never been.
