Answer Monday! Part 3
Which bowl do you really want USC to play in?
Q: Jeff Byers applied for a sixth year of eligilbity. Will Josh Pinkard also apply for a sixth year of eligilbity? What are the chance both players get their requested granted like Dennis? Also, what is the news with redshirt junior linebacker Luther Brown is he injured and will he play this season, or are the coaches wanting him to keep the option for a sixth year after next season?
A: Pinkard has the option to apply after the season but last time I asked said he was undecided. Luthur Brown remains a mystery. He is currently not cleared due to a shoulder injury so I do not want to guess when he will return or what he will do in the future.
Q: How many, if any, 'silent commits' do the Trojans have for '09 football that you know of?
A: Right now, I hear there are 2-3 commits of the silent variety.
Q: How bad was that ankle sprain that Mark Sanchez suffered a couple days before the Cal. game? It was really heavily taped the Thursday before the game, and appeared to badly limit his mobility; Did that play a part in all the sacks he's taken the last two games?
A: He did sprain his ankle but I don't think it affected his play. If you look at some of his sacks, they actually occurred because he ran up toward the pressure instead of staying in the pocket. He's looked fine in practice. Maybe he's doing a good job masking it, but I don't think it's been a big issue.

Who are the silent commits?
More obliviousness from SW who should cover non-sports such as bowling.
It is obvious that the ankle is affecting Sanchez's ability to avoid the rush and buy time for making throws and/or make plays with his feet.
He is not looking comfortable in the pocket and that is due to his not having the confidence he had in his mobility prior to hurting his ankle...and, although it escapes SW because he is so busy being cynical that he has no time to be analytical (giving him the benefit of the doubt that he actually might know something about the game if he weren't too busy to observe it for a change), USC has called very few of their longer-developing pass plays that require a qb to use that mobility...it's not a mystery-except to SW.
