Answer Tuesday! Part 3 (FF Forum)
Who should USC play in a bowl game? And in what bowl game?
Q: Now that we are 3/4 of the way through the season, if we were to replay the WAC bashing of the PAC 10, and Maryland's drubbing of Cal, How do you think the results would turn out if they played now. Same for USC vs Ohio State.
A: I actually believe the Pac-10 teams might do better at this point in the season and I still find it hard to believe ASU lost to UNLV at home, no matter how bad ASU is. Ohio State with Terrelle Pryor would have made the USC game much more interesting though I expect the Trojans win anyways.
Q: Could you explain the illegal man downfield penalty that negated Cal's touchdown.
A: Pete Carroll's quote sums it up better than me: ``The Cal receiver at the far left of the formation did not initially position himself at the line of scrimmage. When he realized he needed to move up, he didn't get set before the ball was snapped. The receiver, therefore, became the ineligible man downfield.''
Q: Would you rather see USC play Penn State in the Rose Bowl or watch USC match up against the SEC or Big XII runner-up in the Orange, Fiesta, or Sugar? Answer as a reporter, blogger, and alumnist.
A: As a reporter, blogger and alumist, I would rather see USC play anyone but a Big 10 team. I'd rather USC play Boise State than a Big Ten. I'd love to see a USC-Texas Tech, Texas or Oklahoma matchup. That would get fans excited and challenge the USC defense.
I simply do not know anyone who wants another boring Rose Bowl (except Pete Carroll). I'd rather see Oregon State win out (which I doubt happens) if it allowed USC to go to another BCS bowl game.

I think most fans (myself included) and players would like to see USC match up against a Big XII or SEC team. Texas would be my personal choice.
i'd like to see usc/florida matchup.
First of all, Pryor DID play versus USC. He did nothing. Make him the starter and he gets his head knocked off and USC actually puts a serious whoopin on the Buckeyes. At that part of the season, the defense was not anywhere near as good as they are right now. You also have to remember that Sanchez and the offense left at least 28 points on the field in that game. Final score could be more like 63-3.
Oregon State doesn't lose to anybody right now, except maybe the Trojans. They are playing a focused game plan and are starting to really come together, as they usually do this time of year. UCLA still gets pounded, but ASU doesn't lose to UNLV again. The one weekend where the conference got blasted was a bit of a perfect storm type situation and wouldn't happen again, period.
We need to all stop talking about BCS championship or Rose Bowl games. USC is not getting to either one. It wouldn't matter if the top 5 teams lost twice each at this point. The entire nation is confused about what this conference is and there is nothing that can correct that.
Who would I like to see us play? I think Florida or Oklahoma would be the best games. Alabama, Texas and Texas Tech would be blowouts in USC's favor. Any game against a Big Eleven team would be a joke at this point. They can rank us where ever they want, but you ask any coach in the country if they'd like to play USC in a winner take all scenario and to a man they would be against it. Vegas would have USC as a double digit favorite against every single team out there.
I'm just amazed that USC fans would eschew a conference championship and a Rose Bowl berth for the mere possibility of a BCS at-large berth. For those who are clamoring to play a Big 12 school, are you willing for that matchup to be in the Holiday Bowl? Really?
If USC can't make the BCS title game, I want to USC, at a minimum, to win the Pac-10 title...again...for the seventh straight year. Besides, a matchup between 11-1 Penn St and USC would create plenty of buzz, even if it is in, God forbid, the Rose Bowl! Am I the only one?
No.
And the odds are that it will be a Penn St-SC Rose Bowl.
Oregon State has to win out against Cal (3 point favorite at home), at Arizona (about an even game), and then Oregon at home (maybe 5-point favorite). That means the Beavs' have about 1 chance in 7 of making it. SC's chances are much better against the likes of Stanford, ND and ucla.
Not you too Wolf!!!
Why have so many forgotten that Pryor did play against USC. I haven't looked at the stats, but I recall him playing about 1/3 of the snaps.
I'm so tired of hearing how different the game would be with Pryor and Wells. USC faced Pryor and he didn't do much. I doubt Wells would ave done much either. He's the type of back this defense stops with ease.
