Did the offense overachieve or underachive this season?

Q: Scott, if Alex Stepheson gets cleared by the NCAA, then I believe that USC is an Elite 8 team in the tourney. As a matter of fact, I honestly believe that this may be the most talented, deepest hoops team in at least the last few decades. I am going to call it here first. SC may win the hoops national championship this season. Scott, do you believe that this team has the potential to be one of our greatest hoops teams ever with an Elite 8 highly plausible, and even has a realistic possibility of winning the national basketball championship? Call it now if you do before the rest of the country jumps on our bandwagon.

A: It can be an Elite Eight team if it gets hot at the end of the season and the draw is favorable, similar to two years ago when it was a Sweet 16 team. But Stepheson needs to get eligible and some of the reserves (Marcus Simmons, Kasey Cunningham) need to contribute when the starters need a break.

Q:: What was up with the heated exchange between Damian Williams and Mark Sanchez after the game? Mark was grabbing his neck in pain after Williams hugged him from behind.

A: I think Williams got a little too excited and injured Sanchez while trying to celebrate after the game. Sanchez appeared fine afterward in the locker room.

Q: What are your honest thoughts on Sarkisian and do you believe he does more harm than actual good as offensive coordinator considering the talent on this team?

A: I don't think it's all on Sarkisian. Pete Carroll has a hand in the offense too. And it's fair to say the offense underachieved this season, especially after the promise of the first two games. So I would say there's blame to go around. I also think it wouldn't have hurt to play another quarterback earlier in the season just to give them some quality looks.

Is the season over? Probably better hold evaluations of the offense until the season is over. I mean, put up 50 on ND, UGLY and a good bowl opponent and maybe your "evaluation" will change.

9 an 1, scoreboard baby, too many whiners and complainers. SC just capturing wins. As that fn crazy man up north said, "JUST WIN, BABY!"

Why would anyone care about a Scott Wolf evaluation? He knows as much about football as he knows about brain surgery. He is truly pathetic.

The USC O has underachieved since 2005. Yes even in 2005 SC was digging itself out of holes created by dumb and dumber. One of these years , probably next, this sloppy poorly coached offense is going to catch up with Pete and it is really going to get ugly.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
